I love running! :lol

Here are some of the pictures taken when I ran my first half marathon! (13.1 miles).
I ran the race in 1 hour, 53 minutes and 11 seconds which over all, put me at an 8:39 pace! To be honest, I could have never done it without God and my running partner!

enjoy, and I hope you can share any pictures of yourself too!

My buddy Jimmy and I at the finish line! It was like 33 degrees outside! brrrr!

Jimmy makes it look so easy! We averaged 7:40 that mile. It was mile 7.

Jimmy likes Stovebolts. Jimmy likes to run too. Stovebolts is a good runner but Jimmy is better. Jimmy is going to win and rub it in Stovebolt's face.

lol Couldn't resist.

Nice run!

It's from an episode of Seinfeld, in case you haven't seen it. :D

It's always good to see some.......older folk who are in good shape. ;) I couldn't do a 1k marathon.

lol....It was an episode about a guy named Jimmy who refers to himself in the first person. It's pretty funny stuff. I get a good chuckle just thinking about it.

Woot! Congrats man! I am with you brother...I love running too! I ran my first Half back in 2006 and have been running ever since.

that's awesome!

I ran a lot when I was a teen, then for some really stupid reason I started smoking... and did that for 21 years... Quit 5 years ago and last march I started running again. Hey, it took me two weeks to run 1.4 miles without stopping. 7 months later I did my first half. I'm proud of myself, and I'm super proud of my 13.1 sticker :D I'm only humbled when a car drives past me with their 26.2 ;)

How often do you run? P.S. I get a new pair of running shoes tonight :thumb

Awesome! I am proud of you for getting back on the horse!

Back in 2005 on my birthday no less, I found myself 40 pounds over weight and not feeling so well. Decided to grab a Couch to 5K plan and sign up for a race before I had even ran a step 8 weeks out so I would have to prepare or make an idiot out of myself. 8 weeks later and 40 pounds lighter I ran my first 5K in under 30 minutes on a hilly course.

I got the bug bad and went out 6 months later and ran a 1:56 Half in Valpo, IN. Right now, since I am not training for anything specific, I run 4 times per week for a total of 15 miles. By the end of December I will be starting a 15K training plan and will start doing some speed work and long runs.

A sister-in-law of mine, who is a couple of years older with four young kids, just did a couple of marathons this year for the first time ever. She's now training for triathlons. She loves it.

I've never enjoyed running but I am beginning to think it was because I never had a proper pair of running shoes (from a specialty running store) and I would get shin splints and stuff. But I've been thinking more and more about getting into it.

LOL!

Ha, that was hilarious Free! :rolling

I don't know that I've got a marathon in me yet, but that is my goal for next year, Lord willing. Oh, and my new shoes, what a difference! I went from a fancy $115 Nike to a $100 New Balance and what a huge difference! In the Nike, I had to put a little heel into my stride or my calves would start to cramp. Ouch, man that cramping took me out last month and almost made me drop Detroit until Jimmy told me to run with a bit of heel. In the New Balance, the shoes felt like, welll... like I didn't have a shoe on, and I ran my 5k yesterday without any problems to my calves at all. BTW, I didn't do as well on yesterday's 5k as I wanted. My time was 23:56.

Aero,
I'd like to run more, and as soon as my schedule allows, I'd like to get back to running every other day. I was running three times a week. 3 miles slow, 4.3 - 7 miles fast and then Saturday was my long run where 10 was the norm. I wanted to get up to 16 before Detroit, but I ended up injuring myself again and never made it past 12 before doing 13.1 in Detroit.
BTW, what kind of shoe do you run in?

TTYL,
Jeff

Bonnie knows what you mean by a bad pair of running shoes... :lol

Bonnie was wearing New balance trainers when she got her first shin-splints! :shame

Bonnie suggests you pay the difference and get some really good Nike's and take a look at the advice Stovebolts and "The Jimmy" give for those injuries... :toofunny

All kidding aside I LOVE to run! Finally~ I am getting back into the groove Jeff~ just doing the excersizes you suggested and some jogging to start~ thanks for the great advice! :D

Bonnie~

Stovebolts loves his new, New Balance 1063's.
Stovebolts says that his New Balance 1063's are the best fit for his foot. (Neutral, high arch, wide foot)
Stovebolts predicts running 10 miles in his 1063's will feel like 8 in his Nike's.
Stovebolts can't wait to go running tomorrow morning!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

good morning!

I am a new member from the USA (MASSACHUSETTS), a former (w-a-y former!) US Woman Marine
and have loved running for 35-years! (W/time-out for 2-kids).

I usually jog 5miles/day--5-days/wk, and take l-o-n-g walks w/ankle-weights 2Xs/wk.
A great addition to my "training" is to also JUMP-ROPE WHILE jogging--which is great for
getting an upper-body work-out while running! Plus it's FUN while listening to music!

Do you-all prefer to run by yourself? I do...but I enjoy company for the long walks.....

I am looking forward to reading through many of the interesting-looking topics here at the FORUM
and hearing from you-all.
