Scofield v. Scripture

My questions refer to this statement by Scofield.....

" It is important to see that the nation has never as yet taken the land under the unconditional Abrahamic
covenant, nor has it ever possessed the whole land."

I've looked in the Scofield notes that I can find online and can't find any scripture that he has taken this from.

Maybe he is saying: Clearly this has not happened...

Or something like this.

Blessings.

Sorry, farouk, I'm not understanding you. If some scriptures say it has then where are the scriptures that says it hasn't??
What is he basing his statement on?

Reba, because I can't look at his notes by page, what scripture does he refer this note 1 to, if he does?
Thanks

The Palestinian Covenant gives the conditions under which Israel entered the land of promise. It is important to see that the nation has never as yet taken the land under the unconditional Abrahamic Covenant, nor has it ever possessed the whole land (cf. Genesis 15:18 ; Numbers 34:1-12 . The Palestinian Covenant is in seven parts.

(1) Dispersion for disobedience, Deuteronomy 30:1 ; 28:63-68 (See Scofield "Genesis 15:18")

(2) The future repentance of Israel while in the dispersion, Deuteronomy 30:2 .

(3) The return of the Lord, Deuteronomy 30:3 ; Amos 9:9-14 ; Acts 15:14-17 .

(4) Restoration to the land, Deuteronomy 30:5 ; Isaiah 11:11 Isaiah 11:12 ; Jeremiah 23:3-8 ; Ezekiel 37:21-25

(5) National conversion, Deuteronomy 30:6 ; Romans 11:26 Romans 11:27 ; Hosea 2:14-16

(6) The judgment of Israel's oppressors, Deuteronomy 30:7 ; Isaiah 14:1 Isaiah 14:2 ; Joel 3:1-8 ; Matthew 25:31-46

(7) National prosperity, Deuteronomy 30:9 ; Amos 9:11-14

The topic is Scofield v. Scripture

We could start another thread on his personal life... but not this one....

:topic I do not want to turn this thread into a scofield bashing Please lets stick to the balancing Scofield with Scripture....

This is why i am not adding my personal thoughts to the thread.

SCOFIELD’S DEFINITION AND COMMENTS:

oppressors. (7) National prosperity.” Sco. Ref. Bible, page 250, note 1.

Scripture

Jos 21:43 And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
Jos 21:44 And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.
Jos 21:45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

I guess it could be said that what Joshua describes was hardly a permanent state of affairs; and that — quite apart from the purposes of God for Gentiles in the Gospel — unbelief made Israel's untroubled presence in the land impossible and also their Messiah would not be dwelling permanently among a largely unbelieving earthly people.

reba, this Is related. I have seen Christians and I have done it in ignorance rejoice that isreal will suffer so that the messiah will come. I also have heard that isreal must suffer and jews must die so that he will come. the sooner the better. let the arabs go to war. when it happens they say, jesus will protect them.NO, how many will die if he came today. how many gentiles, how many CRANMAN's will die?! I have lost jewish cousins. some may be in isreal today. my grandparents and uncle died and on their graves its inscribed. son and daughter of Jacob,(isreal). this is a cry to the moshaic saying here I am in the grave. raise me and put me in my land. I have done that rite with all of them have passed.to get gleeful about the wars isreal must or may or may not face is SICK. I have seen it. NO I will not go there and do that with them. NO I will be sad if it happens. many of family may die and be lost. it may be too late for my relatives who have died and go on the judgement. reba, what I have said didn't come to me from one source but by a member here and also indirectly by a man who said this about his daughter who mentioned this to him. I merely put it together.

We agree on much Jason... I wish the thread to stay on Scofield and Scriptures . In a 'tight' format. I plan on next week bring up a new point....

I guess my point was that such a state of affairs didn't last.

Similarly when the children of Israel were delivered at the Red Sea from the Egyptians (another figure of baptism, which links dispensationally with New Testament teaching) they enjoyed a time of blessing. Though the conscious enjoyment of that blessing - as described by Joshua, as described in Exodus - was not lasting.

I don't think or pretend that Scofield is inspired (but I do find him helpful).

Blessings.
