Search Our Heart
Part One: Why and Who

I was taught a way of truthful living which requires me to do a daily moral inventory of myself. It is a way of 'Searching my Heart' for self-appraisal. Why? Because the Scripture encourages me to do so.

Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Galatians 6:7-9 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

James 5:15-16 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Biblically, from Genesis to Revelation, from Alpha to Omega (so to speak), the whole bible is about how to return home.

Genesis 3:22-24 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." 23. So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Revelation 22:13-14 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14. "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

Since Adam and Eve were banished, the flaming sword (symbolizing Truth and the Word of God) has been guarding the way to the tree of life. To go through the gates into the (New) city, where the tree of life is, is to face the sword of Truth. To be tested against the Word of God. Blessed are those who wash their robes (unstained righteousness).

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Dividing between what is true and not true in our soul.

Whose heart do we search? Only our own.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Clapping hands and nodding head yes. Since I can't figure out the Imogi deal. Good Peter, of course Hebrews 4:12, is so important to the believer for growth. Being able to divide in the scriptures is to be able too understand scripture.
Good scriptures and fine points you bring.

The Why of Why

It was revealed, in Christ, a way to live truthfully.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

But first I had to clear the way for the Spirit of Truth to enter my temple.
Matthew 21:13 "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it 'a den of robbers.'"
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Afterwards I can start to eliminate further wreckage to my past, and guard my soul from corruption.
2 Timothy 1:13-14 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you, guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

It takes faith with work to change from my old nature to my new nature in Christ. I had to develop a habit, a way of being, to change from sinner towards non-sinner.
James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

My goal is to remain in Christ in all my affairs,
1 John 2:28 Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

...so I can avoid emotional hangovers such as resentments, anger, and other fear-based attitudes.
Ephesians 4:26-27 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27. and do not give the devil a foothold.

This enables me to have a good night sleep, and meet tomorrow with a clear conscience;
Acts 23:1 Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."

...and no denials to hinder me from accepting new Truths.
Galatians 5:7-9 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8. That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9. "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."
I Corithians 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?
1 John 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

The Truth enables me to be of correct understanding of others. By seeing my own faults I gain tolerance, forgiveness and love for others; for none of us are perfect.
Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."

To avoid fear of judgment is to know myself to the marrow, by my faith in Christ, while on earth.
1 Corinthians 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.

Whenever I fail to be in Christ with others, I can promptly admit to myself, and to them also if it helps.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

The Who of Who.

To remember I am only saved by the grace of God.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, 9. not by works, so that no one can boast. 10. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Any success I may have came from God's-will.
Proverbs 16:2-3 All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. 3. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Any failures came from self-will.
James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Everyday is a new day, but never promised to us. If God is our forethought when we wake up then we will lead a life that is pleasing to Him in all we do and all we speak.
