Secular Bands with Christian Overtones

fly the star and bars as well pard?

Heck no, we won fair and square! :approve

I imagine I should kick that attitude... I plain on moving south the moment I can! North Texas, maybe... they get snow there, right? I need snow...

But ya, a "country yankee"... Actually, it's funny you mention that, my friends call me the New England cowboy. :shrug I don't even own a cowboy hat, but I rarely listen to anything but country and bluegrass... I drive a pickup... I only wear jeans, even in the summer and to church, and I always wear button downs tucked in. Though, my feet give away that I'm a New Englander... can't beat a pair of Sperry's!

i wouldnt call the burning of savanah and also atlanta and charlseton exaclty a fair fight.

but we have some remnants of the older america here and arent taking over by commies aka democrats.

my family fought for the south, lol.

Well, don't look at me. I'm as pure-bred an New Englander as you can get! No intent at bragging, but I can draw a straight line from my grandfather to the Mayflower. So, I am not one of those implanted commies!

I just have a different view of the stars and bars. Maybe I will share it with you sometime...

actually i dont fly the rebel battle flag nor the stars and bars, just talk trash to you yankees. my mom is from that town called beacon falls, and moved here in late 60's. her family came to mass in the middle to late 1800's.

Pard, aside from the cowboys stuff, I'm surprised they haven't escorted you to the state line by now for being a conservative in New England! That's painted blue every November, isn't it?

Save parts of New Hampshire, this entire place is blue as blue can be! I got my absentee ballot yesterday. I proudly wrote Republican in all caps with a ! and underlined it. The lady looked at me as if I was Satan!

The older people look at me with pride, it's the people between the ages of 20 and 50 or 60 that cannot stand me, or my "kind" as one guy I talked to called conservatives!

But actually, I am not sure if the country and bluegrass gets them more or less than my Peter Schieff sign and my "Where's the birth certificate" bumper sticker. :shrug

Really, Oats? Dunno, I do not listen to much rap, though I like some stuff. From my little "research" on Zune I have found that the big named guys all have a song or two about God/Jesus/Bible. Maybe not all of them, but the guys I see as "big names". :shrug

I shall defer to you on this, though. I only listen to certain songs which are to just dang catchy to ignore!

Don't get me wrong Pardy Guy...some of them are christian. But hip hop and music in general is going through a bad funk...

True :shame

Kansas was/is definitely christian. Just check these out

Don't get hung up on the album art.

The Wall

YouTube - The Wall :: Kansas

I'm woven in a fantasy,
I can't believe the things I see
The path that I have chosen now
Has led me to a wall
And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost
It rises now before me,
A dark and silent barrier between,
All I am, and all that I would ever want to be
It's just a travesty,
Towering, marking off the boundaries my spirit
Would erase

To pass beyond is what I seek
A fear that I may be too weak
And those of you who've seen it through
to glimpse the other side,
The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride
The moment is a masterpiece,
The weight of indecision's in the air
Standing there, the symbol and the sum of all that's me
It's just a travesty,
Towering, blocking out the light; its blinding me
I want to see

Gold and diamonds cast a spell,
It's not for me I know it well
The riches that I seek
Are waiting on the other side
There's more than I can measure in the treasures of the love that I can find
And though it's always been with me,
I must tear down the Wall and let it be
All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be, in harmony
Shining through and smiling back at all who wait to cross
There is no loss

Relentless

YouTube - KANSAS - Relentless

(Kerry Livgren)
In the time we spent together
Many words have passed between
And the feelings that we shared are all behind us now
'Cause a change has come upon me
And I'm surly not the same
There is so much more than what we feel and live every day

(Chorus)
Relentless, unchanging
Though the world is still before me now
I'm seeing forever
I will keep my heart and mind with you
So joyously I'm waiting for the day

In a single timeless moment
When the old was cast away
The new was born into a world of simple joy
And my life is still for living
Though it's seen through different eyes
And the knowledge of the truth's
A burden easy to bear

(Bridge)

It's drawing so near
It's shrouded in mystery
Histories fall, the end of an age
The feeling we're waiting for, hoping for
Now, the time to come alive
The end to which we strive
Will soon arrive

Now the gift is truly given
If you only would receive
For you're standing in the crossroads
And you can't turn back
Though we can't conceive forever
And it's sometimes hard to care
Our lives do not compare to what's awaiting us there

A Glimpse of Home

YouTube - Kansas - A Glimpse Of Home

(Kerry Livgren)
When I was very young so many songs were sung
So much wasted time on an uphill climb
But you where always there, a feeling in the air
There was nothing to fear you were so near
Now you are here once again
As I stand in your presence
I can feel the quiet patience of your gaze
Like an old superstition
You are haunting all my dreams and waking days

(Chorus)
All my life I knew you were waiting, revelation anticipating
All is well, the search is over, let the truth be known
Let it be shown (give me a glimpse of home)

There's no resisting you among the chosen few
It's hard to be sure, it's hard to endure
And when I hear your voice
I know I have the choice
To pursue an ideal, something so real
Now I've got nothing to lose
As I see your reflection
All the answers I desire become so clear
Like a page that is turning
I can look into the future without fear

You're in my rock and roll, you're in my very soul
Though it's heavy to bear, it's a feeling so rare
And it's a mystery, the way it's meant to be
Can we ever know, we're moving so slow
There ain't enough time in the world
As I reach up the ladder
There is something ever higher to perceive
Like a fire that is burning
In my heart I know I surely must believe

Band: As I Lay Dying
Secular band stated We are Christians but not a Christian Band. I don't get it the Great commission commands us all to spread the gospel and make deciples no ifs or butts dont get me wrong I praise that they are saved and respect the band as a band as well as all secular Christian band members. I think if you were given a gift you need to be using it to further Gods kingdom as commanded to be secular is kinda like saying yeah God you gave me this gift and what a wonderful gift it is but... I want to use it for me.....

God made us to be who we are. I guess there is a fine line between being ourselves and doing what we do out of ego.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting to be pidgeon-holed into a category that makes a lot of people turn away. I listened to Kansas growing up and they played a huge part in me choosing to be christian.

So there! Lol

How has nobody mentioned Owl City? xD Perhaps it's just too obvious an answer.

Maná, a Mexican band came to mind with their song "tú me salvaste" ("you saved me"). I'm not sure if the band members are Christian, buuuut that song has some pretty obvious overtones.

How's this for obvious? LOL

I love this band!!
So do I! A band of three brothers from Texas. Three of the most humble musicians out there.

Here's one from Creed:

... and if you can't quite understand the vocals, here's the lyrics:

A court is in session, a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally

Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

[Guitar break]

I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

Should've been dead on a Sunday morning
banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

CREED LYRICS - My Own Prison

Scott Stapp said he wrote this after being kicked out of his parent's house and was sleeping on bath towels in an empty apartment. His grandmother had been helping him out.

Yes. His dad was big in his local Pentecostal church and was very strict and stern. Scott was forced to memorize scripture at a very early age.
