Don't go to sleep if the bleeding hasn't stopped.
Is someone coming to your house?

sorry for all this. my friend and I ended up getting the bleeding stopped then I super glued it. I wish I hadn't made this thread I feel like a fool now, but oh well. thanks for all your help.

Just for future reference, all emergency rooms have to treat serious wounds irregardless of the patient's ability to pay. That is law of the land here in America. Anyone, even illegal aliens have the right to seek emergency medical treatment.

Also, for those with a woman in the house, or single guys, you just might want to get some for serious cuts:

There is no better way to stop a large serious cut from bleeding than to put a sanitary napkin (yes, woman's monthly supply) on it. They are specifically made to handle bleeding, are sanitary, and can be taped into place, after pressure has been applied. Living way out here, I've used them more than once to handle some of the cuts that have happened. The doctor who has followed up on the cuts have always said that it was a great idea.

Glad to hear that in the end it went alright. Thanks Dora for that for future reference...I guess it makes sens (not that I'd know anything about it! :lol)

Man, I'm sorry I missed this one lol.

:rolling

I'm not laughing at you Ryan. If it were me I wouldn't have stiched it myself. I would just get the bleeding stopped and bandage it up. For future reference, don't mix drinking and cutting. :)

I've have stopped more then one cut that needed stitches with superglue, I love the stuff. Works great.

Stabbing potatoes can be a risky endeavor.
I can't count the number of times I've come close to skewering my own hand.
Maybe it's all those eyes watching us that makes us slip. :confused

hahahaha, good one. what can I say, I guess when it heals it will be funny, but right now it hurts. oh, well I guess it is funny right now. Just not at the time.

Hope you're healing well, Ryan. It's a little late now since this happened 2 days ago, but I would say that if this happened again, then let the wound bleed (with reason) to cleanse any possible bacteria out. Maybe also a little antiseptic if possible, again within reason. I would venture there is nothing serious bacteria-wise if you did that with a clean knife (which I assume it was if you were cutting a potato). My mother was a nurse and she would put a "butterfly" type bandage on to pull the cut closed. But yours was big enough to warrant constant monitoring that it does not split open again--- at least a week or so.

My father cut the palm of his hand with a bayonet in WW2 bad like you had, to the point the the "insides were bubbling out". He pushed them all back in and taped it shut and it healed OK. The only advantage to doctors is they may sterilize it better (again, that may not be a big risk anyways) and the stitches would work better than a bandage that comes off. But otherwise, the body heals itself.

In the meantime, make sure you eat right, maybe take vitamins if you can afford them to heal faster.
