should christian go to college

I ask this question here because of a member of this forum has stated that colleges are run by satan. While its true that there alot aethists and evolution is taught, and some lifestyles are encouraged, and drugs are encouraged, pot mainly.

Should we not attend college altogether, what about the chance to serve the Lord here?
your thoughts please

Well then the question arises - should we go to school? We could go on and on because a lot more than colleges are run by Satan. Not directly, obviously. Your local supermarket might be run by satan.

I think, like school, college is a great way to improve your understanding, and also gives you a great opportunity to spread the Word of Christ to many people.

of course, that's my point, we are in the world not of the world, just look at the bioethics debate on stem cell reaserch and i think a christian bioethist could make a difference there.

This world is run by Satan. Yes, God is in control, but for the time being Satan has free reign here.....so should we all just kill ourselves to avoid being in the world? Some people are just too legalistic and don't really think through what they suggest others to do....IMHO :nag

Harvard, the first American college, was founded by Christians, so there's no harm in attending college as long as you filter your professor's rhetoric through God's Word.

Actually, universities (among other things) were started by Christians in the early church.

Exactly. There has been an arbitrary line drawn in the sand for which no basis was, or can be, given. The earliest of educations has worldly philosophy in it.

College and university can and likely will test our faith but they are not something to fear. Nor does it mean that one is trusting in men. All truth is God's truth whether spoken from a professor, a pastor, or a child. Not to mention that most post-secondary education is amoral--some of it can be used in immoral (or moral) ways but that does not at all make higher education evil in and of itself.

Exactly.

I would strongly encourage all Christians to seek at least some post-secondary education, not that it is the end-all-be-all. It is okay if someone doesn't choose to do that, as long as it is for the right reasons (or at least not bad ones). In the end, just do what God is calling you to do. And for many, that means a higher education.

Matt 22:37-38, " 37 And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment."

The world around us has sin written all over it....if we live in fear...we live not for God. God did not give us the spirit of fear.

A person should do what the Lord compels him/her to do. There are no hard and fast rules about these things. Whatever is not of faith is sin.

College is nothing but a waste of time, unless you know what career you really want and have a true passion or interest for it.

I am currently in college. I have experienced resistance with certain instructors. But I have not let that weaken my faith. When something is brought up about evolution, I don't care because they have just as much "proof" as they like to call it, as we do. I just sit there, listen respectfully and laugh inside myself. I know they're wrong, although it has made me quite mad sometimes. I live in the bible belt, and this stuff still goes on here. It's at every college, regardless of their reputation.

Thank goodness I'm half way through to a Bachelors and then a masters.

In my high school chemistry class I once brought up the fact that it was important to remember that evolution is only a theory, it isn't fact. The teacher (who knew that I am Christian) had the audacity to say that there was no other possible explanation for the existence of man. He then continued to say that the Christian view shouldn't even be considered because it was based on "stories".
