Should Christians bicker with each other over disagreements? Or should we agree to disagree and find common ground and love each other as Brothers and Sisters in Christ?

I don't think that disagreements are unhealthy, but you've got to watch the way in which you deal with disagreements.

We should of course love our brothers and sisters in Christ - we should love everybody, even our enemies.

I guess it depends on the issue. While we should not make it a habit of constantly bickering , I don't think we should give up on disagreements and agree to disagree too easily either .

Of course not - they should all accept the truth of what God has shown me and love me all the more for telling them.

Once again, only God has the answers that we need. So we need to rely on scripture as always when we answer questions, not our own human opinions. 1 Corinthians 11:19, "No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you has God's approval." That means that arguments about non-disputable matters like doctrine, salvation, the law, etc. are between true and false teachers who will always slip in among us.

2 Timothy 2:23, "Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid argument, because you know they produce quarrels." foolish and stupid arguments are things like;

1) Disagreeing with a bible quote. :o
2) Contradicting any part of scripture and refusing to admit it
3) Claiming that a bible quote is someone's interpretation. :o

Those are Satan's tactics and must be rebuked. 2 timothy 3:16, "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness so that the man of God will be thoroughly equipped for every good work.." But if someone continues using Satan's tactics after he's been rebuked, the bible says to have nothing to do with him.

Hold on a second missy... You quote a scripture and then interpret it by saying, "Claiming that a bible quote is someone's interpretation", yet you rest on an interpretation instead of the simple words of scripture. Why? Simple... because Scripture needs to be interpreted. Somebody has to decide what a foolish and stupid argument looks like. We call that discernment.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

You've just been rebuked :lol

John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Is that my interpretation or a quote from God's word? :gah

It's obviously a quote. But every time you, or anyone, quotes Scripture, it's for a reason (to support or refute a point, to encourage or rebuke, etc.), which means that there is always a certain interpretation of that Scripture in the mind of whoever quotes it.

My interpretation of John 14:6 is; "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." So if you disagree with my interpretation of that quote, then you are also disagreeing with God because my interpretation and God's words are one and the same. ;)

The same with MT. 23 :10, My interpretation of; "and do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is the Christ is; "and do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is the Christ." Again, they are one and the same. ;)

So my reason for initiating a thread on "The Only Higher education" is because my interpretation of MT. 23;10 is the same as God's word itself. ;)

So one doesn't interpret the bible; one simply believes the bible as written. And that's how you learn to understand the bible. Interpreting the bible is what leads to people turning away from the bible because they have changed words or added to and subtracted from them and put their own slant on it. That's how people condone homosexuality and all sorts of false teachings.

Using your above argument then, it would logically follow that we should never have any education outside of reading the Bible and going to church. Correct?

Again, since no man knows better than Jesus does, then secular humans who teach can always be wrong as the world shows by the changing textbooks in the schools. So I take what humans say with a grain of salt because "Surely the mind and heart of man is cunning." :)

I agree, they can always be wrong. So do you agree that we should then avoid any secular education from kindergarten and up?

Exodus 18:20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Using your above argument then, it would logically follow that we should never have any education outside of reading the Bible and going to church. Correct?

Actually, we were talking about "higher" education. The lower the grades, the less the pride in the humans who teach and the simpler the teachings. Jesus tells us in John 5:34, "Not that I accept human testimony, but I mention it so that you may be saved."

But John says in 1 John 5:9, "We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son."

That pretty much says it in a nutshell. Man's testimony is simply not as reliable as God's is. Jesus doesn't accept man's testimony because Jesus knows better than all men. But since none of us are as omniscient as Jesus is, then since Satan rules the world, then it's very difficult to know when men, even teachers are telling the truth or lying. That' why I take what I learned in elementary school with a grain of salt. ;) College, on the other hand, is a whole different story since much of the teachings in college are built on pride and deception as I demonstrated in my threads on faulty foundations. You're free to take a look at them. That's because the more the pride humans have in what they call their "own intelligence and accomplishments", the less they agree with the bible. Read 1 Corinthians 1 to see why. I've got to go now. We'll talk later. :wave

Yes, that other thread was about higher education. My point in this thread is about how quoting a verse means that one is assuming a certain interpretation of that verse. And you have done that with Matt 23:10 (I'm not saying that is a bad thing at all since my main point is we all do it, we cannot not do it). You stated:

"The same with MT. 23 :10, My interpretation of; "and do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is the Christ is; "and do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is the Christ." Again, they are one and the same. ;)

Interpreting the bible is what leads to people turning away from the bible because they have changed words or added to and subtracted from them and put their own slant on it."

However, you apply Matt 23:10 to higher education only but that verse makes no distinction between levels of education. That is how you have interpreted that verse. According to the very argument you have used, that is, "simply believing the Bible as it is written," you would have to have a verse that explicitly states "Post-secondary education is bad, primary and secondary education are good."

Do you agree?

Yes, they twist and misinterpret what is being stated.

It seems like if we would apply those scriptures about humbling ourselves and seeking the good of others above our own, then we wouln't bicker ever. We can discuss, and sharpen, but the tone should always be one of humility and love seeking not to offend other believers...especially those who are younger and weak. We are told to bear in love with one another as different parts of the body.

When my children bicker, nothing I told them to do gets done because the side tangents occupy all of their time. God has a vision, and a work, for us, but when we get sidetrack by the side tangents we are no longer doing God's work of love in a dark world. Just my thoughts. This is a very conviction question, Dave. The Lord bless you.

Yes, that other thread was about higher education. My point in this thread is about how quoting a verse means that one is assuming a certain interpretation of that verse.

You have to know the difference between interpretation and belief. All one needs to understand is basic word vocabulary and grammar to believe the bible. But interpretation implies slanting the bible to suit one's desires. So again, my "interpretation" of MT. 23;10 is word for word what it says. So I'm not putting my own slant on it, I'm believing the words as written. if you don't know the difference, then you might as well throw the whole bible away and make up your own gospel. You can thus change the word "one' into "many", "several" or put any words in that you so desire. the only problem is, your words will pass away since the words of all humans pass away. Only God's words will remain for eternity. So it's a waste of time to put your own words into the bible which is why I don't do so.

So you need to read the bible with faith that it's true not doubt. Then you won't be tempted to disagree with him or put your own words in there and you'll have no problem understanding what Jesus means in MT. 23:10. :)

Free,

I'll give you an example: One person says that this is what MT. 23:10 means; "And you can be called teacher because there are many teachers besides Christ."

Another person says that this is what Jesus means; "And do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is the Christ."

Now since God isn't divided, he will not tell us different or opposite things. Thus, both interpretations can't be right. So which one do you think is right and why? :gah

If we are supposed to take it literally, just as it is written, as you suggest they are both correct. I think you just pointed out a great example of why scripture needs to be discussed and interpretted. You cannot often times take it just on face value. You have to dig a bit. I don't think most folks are digging to make it mean something it doesn't as their primary intent. They are seeking to understand.
