Should Christians go to Mars?

Should Christians go to Mars? Does God want us to be in outerspace? Is it Biblical?
 
What an interesting question! All I know is that I would much rather see humanity come to together in a great project such as that than throw away lives and souls in never ending wars.
 
I don't see the difference between going from Jerusalem to Rome, from Rome to London, from London to America and going from earth to the moon or to Mars.

Did you know that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong shared communion while on the moon?
 
hmmmm Dave, good one. I haven't thought much about this. I think traveling from earth involves relying on and interacting with other people in a very intimate way. Some may not be Christian. So, in that case would I want to be stuck on a small ship with non-christians? NO

Wonder what answers the Bible holds on this? I'm too tired to look it up. I graduate in 15 hrs!!
 
I think any space exploration is a watse of time and money better spent on something more beneficial to man kind.
 
Oh, I don't know. There has been quite a few benefits to mankind from space exploration. Technologies that were born or perfected in NASA include:
Satellite TV
Cordless tools
Medical Imaging
Lithium batteries
Ski boots
Fire resistant fabrics used in fire department turn outs and also lighter air tanks for breathing.
Gaming joysticks
Virtual Reality (not just games here but training for pilots, drivers, etc.)
Smoke Detectors
Micro computers
Solar energy
Advanced Mammograms
Voice activated wheel chairs
Medical "Cool Suits" (for treatments for those with MS, cerebral paisley, etc)
Studless winter tires (love that one!)

That's a partial list, but there is no doubt that the technology boom that has improved living conditions and health benefits for people was impacted by the Space program.

Lets see:

Jerusalem to Rome- walk, ride on an animal's back or a boat.

Rome to London- walk, ride on an animal's back or a boat.

London to America- boat

earth to the moon or to Mars- er, "Houston, we have a problem" :toofunny

When you sit back and think about it though, it's all pretty amazing. I remember sitting on Dad's lap watching the old bw TV when Neil made the giant leap for mankind. Still remember running around all that summer, crouching down as low as possible and saying "T minus 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Blastoff", and jumping as high as I possibly could.



God babbled the languages because He said that there wouldn't be anything that we couldn't do if we didn't, and when you think that space travel is now considered fairly ho-hum, you begin to understand what He was talking about.
 
Why shouldn't Christians go to Mars if they want to?
I honestly fail to see the point of going to another planet, unless we can dump our nuclear waste on it or something.

Fembot: what an insular thought, not wanting to be stuck in a small space ship with Non-Christians? How many non-Christian friends do you have? Imagine being in a spaceship and staring out of the window and truly seeing the expanse of God's creation and asking them if it all got here by chance?

Maybe Christians should go to Mars. All the Amish, Closed Brethrens and insular Christians who only want to associate with other Christians, only listen to Christian music, home-school their kids, only buy goods and services from Christian businesses. They can go, make some more room here on Earth and leave the evangalisim to the rest of us.
 
No. God does not want us to go to Outer Space. The light of the stars shine on Earth, as in ancient Bethlehem. By building rockets we're building graven idols, hoping science will save us instead of faith. If God wanted us in outer space, he would have put us there.
 
I see nothing wrong with space travel :clap , a hundred and six years ago the question would be should christians fly? I watched the columbia first flight in to space, and i can if i chose to watch any launch from my backyard. CADS program was first used by nasa, and it's also used by engineers, gis tech(power and water line location) and archetechs.
 
handy, I think you raise a very good point. although we should probably fix up our own world a bit more before we go exploring into outer space, great technological advances have been made due to space travel (and indeed war as well).
 
I'm a Christian, and I'd give up everything I own and my left lung for a chance to go up into space. It only prooves my geekdom, but my not-so-secret secret desire is to one day go to the Moon or Mars. :D

I got a great laugh out of this comment:

I know it's hard to tell because we're strapped to this giant rock, but we're all traveling through space, at about 1,119 miles per hour to be exact. :P
