Should Christians Watch Horror Movies ?

Lewis

Member
Should Christians watch horror stuff, I just love Dracula movies, especially the old ones like when Christopher Lee was doing them. I just like horror movies, and the thing is I like the ones as to where in the end, good triumphs over evil. And I also think that if you are a well grounded Christian you should be ok. I know many will not agree.

My personal opinion NO!!!,
Do I listen to that advice, NO!!!!

Me and my mentor go around and around over this, and I know he is rite, but I love horror movies. Now I am kind of contradicting myself from another thread a bit, not really but it could seem that way.

Your rite as grounded Christians we should be ok, but as Grounded Christians we should be about the Lords work not about watching some girl and guy lying in bed naked getting knifed to death. Hmm see my point?

I struggle with this one brother.

I dont really know if its right or wrong, but I LOVE horror movies/supernatural thrillers. I tend to like the more demon/ghost type movies. I really hate movies with a lot of aimless killing. Saw is a good example of a really bad horror movie. I didnt get past the first 5 minutes. Its disgusting. My favs right now are Case 39, Devil, The Rite was amazing, but IMO isnt really a horror movie...had a good spiritual message believe it or not...hmm. I know there are others that I liked but I cant think of them at the moment. :/ I think Case 39 is my all-time favorite.

Oooh forgot a good one. The Crazies. Yup. Love it!

No.Our minds are to be renewed in Christ Jesus. Bring every thought under subject to christ. Do not love the world horror movies are satanic. Do not take pleasure in unrighteousness. Would Jesus watch horror movies?

Well even though I like the old ones I like some of the new ones too. We are not all built alike, some will like this and some will like that. But I am just a horror movie fan. And I have been this way all my life and I mean from early childhood. Now I don't like those over the top gruesome movies but I like horror movies.

I see no problem with it; as with any beliefs you may hold, you ought to have some serious, quiet contemplation if you're being easily swayed by any form of entertainment, just as you should also if such forms of entertainment are dictating or otherwise affecting how you live your life from day to day.

Um, how are horror movies any more "satanic" than an action flick? Is it because they are supposed to scare you??? Wow. I guess im going to hell then. :P

My 2 cents - moderation is key to movies like that. Ok, now "Case 39", scared the you know what out of me! First movie in like forever that did that. Also in an odd way it made me think about God and life and death and such.

Haha! I didnt think it was as scary as the rite, but the Rite was more on the realistic side. I think the scariest movie ive ever seen was the Fourth Kind. Thank God it was a hoax. lol. Now that movie scared the sense out of me.

If you invited Jesus over to watch a horror movie, do you think He would see it as you do? I think not. We are to fill our minds with the things of the Spirit, NOT the things of the flesh.

Phl 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Rom 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

Luk 11:34 "The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.

i cant, and i wont.

being a soldier. i dont like gore. war has forever caused me to look at men differently.

i dont like entertaining morbid thoughts. i have seen death in person and care not to switch of and on my emotions and look at a person dying and study out of curiousity what the process was like or how fake the movies are. and yet feel detached that the subject whether real or movie charachter is a human being.

i can look at documentaries such as forensics things as they show how a crime is commited.

but never for entertainment.

Bewitched was mentioned in this topic, I might get jumped on for this, but I happen to like that show, and I like I Dream Of Jeannie and the Munsters and The Adams Family. And The Outer Limits. Has not messed with my walk one bit. As a matter of fact, I am watching a Bewitched Marathon right now.

shoot i have watched worse as a christian and before, those dont have anything on what i have watched.

these are:

the real ghostbusters(the toon and they get way into the occult and close to the actual myth)
akira anime(rape scene)
heavy metal(porn slash gore with the heavy metal band iron maiden album aces high as a sound tract)

I loved all those shows to. But if I comment any further I may start sounding like the legalistic pastors that turned me off from Christianity when I was younger.

I like what Paul said in 1st Corinthians that all things are lawful but not all things are expedient or profitable. I know the passage is not talking about TV shows, but I think the same thought apply's here.
I like the old children's song,

Oh Be Careful little eyes what you see
Oh Be Careful little eyes what you see,
For the Father up above is looking down with love, so be careful little eyes what you see.

No I am not saying watching the bewitched marathon is wrong, for you, I can not judge you at all. But for me, I have to go with the conviction I have that the Holy Spirit has given me.
Just like having a beer may be a sin for me (because of my past) does not mean it may be a sin for you.

Well if somebody thinks that twitching your nose and making thing change is real then I feel sorry for them. If someone thinks that Herman Munster is real I feel sorry for them, if someone thinks that Mortisha and the Thing and It are real I feel sorry for them. I get a laugh out of these shows. Paul said a principle in Romans 14:14

Romans 14:14
14I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

Yes that is exactly what I was saying in my last post. We are all convicted of certain things in our life for one reason or another. That does not make what is wrong for me wrong for you.

here then: my list of avoiding things

tv for the most part
no secular music is played in my truck.(sanctuary)

my wife does listen to it and watches tv.

Dan, I've yet to read a post of yours I disagree with, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. ;)

If we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we will be convicted to know when we are crossing the line. Personally, I won't watch horror movies where Satan is glorified. I don't like films that portray God as either unable to intervene in the doings of evil or uninterested enough to stand up to it. Some horror flicks have nothing to do with Satan, but focus on bad people doing bad things. You could say evil is behind them doing what they're doing, but they aren't focused on the occult.

I'm not a big fan of the genre anyway. I like dramas and historical docu-dramas. I've watched "The Patriot" dozens of times. :yes

the patriot is so full of historical errs its unbelievable

they make general von stuben and one other frenchman who helped a great deal of minimal importance

and "the swamp fox' was very much a threat the brits took seriously.
