Should I be bored reading the Bible since I have read it through 3 times already?

I have read my Bible 3 times through already, using different versions as well. I just can't seem to get through it again. It's just boring reading it all over again.

I am like that with all books though. Even really interesting ones.

So should I be bored reading the Bible again after reading it 3 times through already?

Is it possible to need a break from reading the Bible?http://www.christianforums.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=58927106

Reading His Word should never be a burden. That's the problem with reading it through. Maybe you're putting too much on yourself. There's nothing wrong with reading a single verse and meditating on it. And there's nothing to be gained by making it all the way through if you're just laboring through it.

I have tried reading only a single verse, but it still ends up being boring because I have read that verse 3 times already.

Plus for me, if I only read one verse I don't get the context of what it is I'm reading, therefore everything else I need to read around it as well.

You probably aren't SUPPOSED to be bored, but I would be if I'd already read it three times. There was a time when I read the Bible every single night without fail, and it was very boring and very stressful because I felt like I had to do it or I wasn't being devoted. I even had a devotional that went along with it, and that was boring too. I'm sure it was something that I was doing wrong, but I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure at some point, most people will get bored with it.

Maybe try doing some subject studies and diving more in to certain topics. May be a little more interesting and you can learn more of what the Bible has to say. God Bless.

First, Congratulations on reading the Bible 3 times through. Have you thought about how many have never read it through once? Consider yourself blessed.

I believe the Bible was given for a far greater reason than just principles to live by, guidelines for morality, history or the like. We can read such in print from any library or corner news stand.

Unlike other books, I believe the Bible was given for us to personally know its' Author (and not just stated principles, guidelines, etc).

Having read it 3 times through, tell me about Him. My ears are open.

Be blessed, Stay blessed, and be Bold!

no, i have gotten bored. it happens but then when i dont know it baam, i see something.
since sunday i have felt the call to do presentation to the royal rangers on isreal and on this forum we have had some debates that changed my view on the ot and what jewish concepts that i knew but didnt really ponder.

powerful stuff.

If you are reading it straight through, yes. Of course it can get boring. You need to start picking it apart. Taking a lump of scripture...maybe a few verses and read it and meditate on it. Maybe find someone to talk to about it and God will teach you new things about scriptures you've read 100 times. That's what makes the bible so great...you can learn new things from old words.

There should be no part of the Bible that should be boring if you are allowing the Holy Spirit reveal Gods word to you. The OT is full of Gods provision, protection and victories in the face of the enemy. It's where we learn what faith and trust is all about within each book and chapter. It's our genealogy through Gods covenant. The NT is the greatest love story ever told how one man laid his life down for all generations to come to have peace of mind, body and soul in the face of adversity.

If you allow the word of God play like a movie in your mind you can put yourself in all the stories told from Genesis to Revelation as it all comes so alive in your own life as you play out all the characters and the circumstances they faced. Their is so much drama that when you start reading you will not want to put it down.

Once the Holy Spirit was given to me, I have never found scriptures boring. It's like a window into heaven and also into my own soul.

Reading the Bible throughout 3 times, does not mean that you got it. The Bible is a lifetime process, because God reveals things to you a little at a time. You sound sort of like when I use to hear people in AA say that they have read all 12 steps and now they are cured because they got it, no they don't have it. It is just not like that.

So, why are you reading the Bible anyway? What are you hoping to accomplish? Are you just reading through it because that's what those Bible reading plans say to do?

My suggestion is to stop reading and start studying.

Here's an excellent little resource that I often give to people when I have extra copies: http://www.amazon.com/How-Study-Bible-TORREY-R/dp/0883681641

I have decided to take a long break from reading my Bible.

As for your link, I have already read something similar to that and it didn't help. I never even studied in school, yet got A's and B's. I became an EMT finishing at the top of my class, but never studied the textbook. I could just read it and I understood what I was reading.

The Bible is very much like that for me as well. The words remain the same (barring different translations) as well as the points that it makes stay the same. They never change.

I will probably start reading it again in a year or so, but will reference it when I am down or looking for inspiration before then I am sure.
