should we avoid being rich and wealthy?

I already have. I am reading only what those scriptures say, not making assumptions. Do we really need to go around again?

I think the answer could be similar to anything else that can bea problem like gambling or alcohol. The answer is yes if being wealthy or working to that end gets in the way of your relationship with God and therefore becomes an idol.

Actually, you did make an assumption in post #24.
However, this is the Lounge, a place for casual talk.

well, this makes it pretty clear with several dozen pertinent in context clear meaning verses from the Bible.

the young rich man just didn't read them nor choose to listen to Jesus who told him directly, so he walked away sad....
(
Matthew 19:22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad ...

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. ... "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. ...biblehub.com/matthew/19-22.htm)

to choose to follow, I always thought it was a no-brainer , and didn't think twice nor hesitate to follow Jesus, and never look back.

I was most surprised to find out like Jesus said that not too many

(at first I was complete excited and expected that 'everybody' 'in church' was already following Him - even that "I" "myself" and "me" were the last to join Him !...... to realize experiential the truth of all the above and all of Scripture was a severe shock for a long time...... ... )

I'm a fan of straightforward replies: :thumbsup

Can you imagine how the starving in the under privileged countries could be helped if everyone who was able liquidated the stuff they don't need. And that would be keeping only their neccessities, a list of things alot of people probably would not give up.

Do you mean something like this?

The Huffington Post reported in April 2012 that "81 billionaires committed to giving at least half of their fortunes to charity".[1] As of February 2014, 122 billionaire or former billionaire individuals and couples have signed the pledge.[2]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giving_Pledge

At the end of the wiki page is a list of the people who have signed the pledge. I was surprised at some of the names on this list, such as Ted Turner and Mayor Bloomberg.
I don't know if any of these people are Christians.

ted turner is a militant socialist and anti-Christian. he divorced Hanoi jane fonda for her alledged conversion to Christ. Bloomberg? is also anti-chistrian and supports abortion.

Oh when I said any of these people I meant the 120 something people on the total list. Not these two I named.
Sorry, I wasn't clear.
