Simple Thoughts On Promises- 147
Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that." He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." (John 1:50, 51)
Nathanael is promised here by Jesus that he was going to witness greater miracles than what he now thought was a miracle. He was astounded at the comments Jesus made regarding him although it was the first time that they were meeting.
....."Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." (John 1:47)
....."I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." (John 1:48)
Jesus was telling him that he was going to witness greater things after becoming a disciple. Jesus also promises him here that he was going to witness the resurrection and the ministry of angels to Jesus.
Many people come to Christ after they witness a miracle from the Lord in their lives. It may be a small miracle or a great one that brings about a life changing experience. The promise given to Nathanael was fulfilled as he witnessed miracle after miracle being done by Jesus and he was witness to the resurrection too as were the other 10 disciples.
The writer of Hebrews says,
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
As we keep trusting the Lord amidst the numerous troubles in our lives, we can see the Lord doing greater miracles than what we witnessed before. As our faith in the Lord increases we can see the Lord's miraculous deliverances in our lives.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
