Sleeping in Church

Have you ever dozed off in church ? ...... :sleep :sleep

My church has several services held over Saturdays and Sundays, and usually in the early morning Sunday service, some people fall asleep during sermon..

I am wondering what's the point of going to church if they fall asleep during sermons .... :confused

:biglol ... :chin

:lol At the church that I've gone to this past year, when the pastor is away, members of the congregation fill the pulpit. Some have given testimonies, some show pictures of missionary trips. I've done this twice now and it's amazing when one is "up there" what one sees. Yep, folks sleeping, folks trying their hardest not to sleep. Let me tell you folks, your pastor knows, your pastor knows all.

I think the point must be...the preacher is boring. :lol

To my shame, I have to laugh every time I read Acts 20:9: "And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft..." I can just picture Paul talking on and on, and this guy sitting in the window dozing off. Okay, okay, I know the guy has an early demise (and that part is definitely not funny), but he ends up alive and well!

i work seven days and it's not hard for me to be tired, if i feel too tired to drive to church, which i have even after a nap, i wont go to church.

I've often wondered if this was part of the reason why God wanted the Sabbath to start at sundown on Friday night: So that everyone would have an early evening, and be at worship all rested and refreshed. ;)

I see people sleeping in church, but I don't know what's going on in their lives. Maybe it's a place of rest for them, lol.

What bothers me more is dadgum cell phones going off all over the church. Leave it in the car if you can't turn it down!! :mad :screwloose

The last few weeks before Timothy had his near throat-ectomy he was basically narcoleptic. He wasn't getting deep sleep at night because he wasn't breathing well, and he would drift off anytime he sat down. So there were a couple of Sundays where I had to poke him every 4 seconds to keep him awake. You never can tell what someone is going through, and that taught me a lesson not to take it too seriously most times.

You mentioned cell phones....well, someone was clipping their finger nails in church the other week, and I was mortified. How DISGUSTING!! Why can't you do that at home? And why do you carry a set of nail clippers to church? :gah

Actually, practice was to worship in the evening. So, I think that would make it harder to stay awake. These people just worked all day to start services shortly after sundown. They needed to get home yet afterward and go to bed themselves.

Hahahahaha! This had me rolling! :rolling

:lol. This thread is quite funny! :D

I've never actually dozed off in church but sometimes at the end of a busy weeks (such as exams etc) I almost do. I have seen a few people do it :D. It's pretty funny watching it.
As others have mentioned, you don't know what people are going through so I try not to judge people when they fall asleep in church.
The servie that I go to is on Sunday evenings at 7:15pm, and that suits me becasue I'm horrible in the mornings but can stay up all night if I want to.

And the phones going off in church.....that's what really annoys me. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad . And also what annoys me is people talking in the sermon or in prayers etc. :mad :mad :mad :grumpy :grumpy :grumpy

The most bizarre thing I ever saw in church was at my mom and dad's church. Their church met in a local YMCA in a workout room. There was a woman who, instead of sitting with the congregation, would sit in the back of the room, against the mirror and pull out her PS2 and play games on it during the service. She would kind of giggle and laugh as she would do this. Then, if she would get bored of the PS2, she would pull out an exercise mat and lay down on it, dress and all.

By woman, I mean she was in her late 50's if not 60's.

And, she was the pastor's wife. :confused
