[_ Old Earth _] So how's the climate going?

Just wondering, it what part of the earths history has the climate not changed?
It is in constant flux. It may be a bit warmer right now, but will it stay that way. It is already way behind the scaremongering highs that they predicted a few years ago.

To say that it is all caused by a gas that makes up 0.038% of our atmosphere rising to a staggering 0.040% of our atmosphere, is laughable. Well it would be if it was not being used to suck billions of dollars out of Canadian tax payers pockets for Cap and Trade nonsense.

Just what are these billions of dollars doing? I still see the same cars, trucks, planes, heating fuels and such being used. Wind and Solar are decades from being economical for anyone other than Donald Trump and The Kardahian's. Yet, they feel like they are doing something by adding 6 more cents to every liter of gas I buy.... good work boys.....

This all smells the same as the stench of the energy crisis of the 70's. Which, by the way, no body remembers and it will be the same with the whole Climate change scam as they move into some other scare mongering drivel that will panic the public while they fleece your bank accounts and pay checks.

It might be a bit warmer and as the ice age was setting in all the animals were crying global cooling and blamming each other for there farts. Dont fart they said, your freezing the earth. Then once the earth was frozen they come to there senses and said quick fart more we gotta warm this place up, now its too warm there saying stop, stop farting.

2016 is the year where abnormal has become the norm when it comes to the global temperature.

New data from NASA shows that yet again, the planet had a record-warm month. September set a record with temperatures 1.6°F (0.91°C) above normal, besting the previous mark set in September 2014. It’s the latest in a run of months — and years — where freakish global warmth has become the norm.

I've been telling people that the rising temperatures will make for a less comfortable and stable world than we've become accustomed to seeing, but not catastrophic for most Americans.

Now, I'm starting to wonder. This is worse than predicted, and no one really knows what it will lead to. We're experimenting with things that involve our food, our income, our health and our safety. And we don't really know what the hazards are.

And then we have this idiot weighing in:
uDFmIDPzCo4znxgzKlT0_jgv4CqHkarUrQ005ED_HbclD4Ex32hmOHsAn95kbFc_WZMiOQ1BMlRj4Fu-vDLyOgnT3syuxfWFY8KxoEWpqd9gxcPzZnQUM8q76jkJzs7IQUNr_cUt
As I sit here by the pool sipping on a pina colada, I wonder if the snow blizzard up north is a little off for this time of year.
Hmmmm....I think I need a manicure...

Used to be. But as the climate warms up, you're going to see more snow falling, more often most years.

Thats great, more snow, then it melts quickly under the warming temperatures and gives more water. So we should be seeing plenty more water. Very convienient for mankind.

That should call for lower water rates. :thumbsup

Actually, it's warming faster than the models predicted:
David Carlson, director of the WMO’s World Climate Research Program, told VOA global warming is happening faster than predicted.

“This year suggests that the planet can warm up faster than we expected on a much shorter time. We would have thought that it would take several years to see a jump like this,” he said.

Scientists based their assessment of the rapidly changing climate on three main indicators. The first is the record-setting global temperatures, which, for the first six months of this year, averaged 1.3 degrees Celsius warmer than pre-industrial era levels.

They noted the heat has been especially high in the Arctic, resulting in the early and fast melting of the Arctic sea ice, territories in the far Northern Hemisphere, including Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Russia, are setting heat records, and carbon dioxide emissions, which are driving global warming, have reached new highs.

Actually, it was predicted long before it started to increase temps. You see, carbon dioxide is not only a greenhouse gas that traps heat, but it also does so at frequencies that are not affected by other common greenhouse gases. The math works out nicely.

Well it would be if it was not being used to suck billions of dollars out of Canadian tax payers pockets for Cap and Trade nonsense.

The "you mess it up, you clean it up" philosophy is a lot older that you think. And it works.

Nope. You're wrong about that. You can still buy a gas-guzzler, if you want. But it doesn't guzzle as much gas as used to be the case. Same thing with trucks and planes.

Wind and Solar are decades from being economical for anyone other than Donald Trump and The Kardahian's.

You're wrong about that. Boy, are you wrong. Iowa gets something like 27 percent of its electricity from wind. And they have much cheaper electricity than states without it. Would you like to see the numbers?

0.038% rising to a staggering 0.040%. That is a overwhelming change.

Sufficient to overwhelm the solar sunspot minimum we're currently going through. It's supposed to be getting cooler, and we keep getting record temps.

  • He wasn't driving drunk, he just had a trace of blood alcohol; 800 ppm (0.08%) is the limit in all 50 US states, and limits are lower in most other countries).

  • Ireland isn't important; it's only 660 ppm (0.066%) of the world population.

  • That ibuprofen pill can't do you any good; it's only 3 ppm of your body weight (200 mg in 60 kg person).

  • The Earth is insignificant, it's only 3 ppm of the mass of the solar system.

  • Your children can drink that water, it only contains a trace of arsenic (0.01 ppm is the WHO and US EPA limit).

  • Ozone is only a trace gas: 0.1 ppm is the exposure limit established by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends an ozone limit of 0.051 ppm.

  • A few parts per million of ink can turn a bucket of water blue. The color is caused by the absorption of the yellow/red colors from sunlight, leaving the blue. Twice as much ink causes a much stronger color, even though the total amount is still only a trace relative to water.
Although percentage is a convenient way to talk about the amount of gas in the atmosphere, it only tells how much is there relative to everything else; percentage doesn’t give an absolute amount.

For example, you have trouble breathing on top of Mount Everest even though the atmosphere still contains 21% oxygen just like at sea level. The percentage isn't important, you need a certain number of oxygen molecules with each breath, regardless of how much or little they are diluted by inert gases. At an altitude of 8000 m the whole atmosphere is diluted.

The total number of CO2 molecules above our heads in the atmosphere is more important than their percentage in the atmosphere. If the amount of inert nitrogen gas (N2) in the atmosphere were to be cut in half then the percentage of CO2 would jump (to about 600 ppm; 0.06%) without a change in the absolute amount of CO2 and no substantial change in the energy balance of the Earth. Adding a huge number of energy-absorbing CO2 molecules to the atmosphere doesn’t change its percent number very much, only because it's being added to a vast inert N2 background.

We know the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased because we have measured it. We know the climate has warmed from current and historical data. The link between increasing greenhouse gases and increasing temperature is clear: just as ink makes water more colored, CO2 makes the atmosphere more absorbing. The extra CO2 in our atmosphere is trapping energy that would otherwise escape to space. The measured global warming matches closely with the amount of energy trapped from the greenhouse gases added to the atmosphere.

A doubling of the trace molecule CO2 from 280 ppm to 560 ppm is still a trace, but just like with arsenic, the difference between a small trace and a larger trace is fatal.

That post is a gas...

Good, it will be like the days of winter I enjoyed as a child......in the 60's and 70's before the scientists were paid to make up a climate farce.

If they really want to stop this catastrophic jump in CO2, from 0.038 to 0.040% then............plant more trees...... Plants love that stuff, they put moisture in the air and more O2.

Solar and wind use for electricity production are far too expensive. My brother in law gets paid 80 cents per kilowatt hour for the electricity he produces with his solar farm. We buy it for 12 to 18 cents per.... now our daft and super moronic government don't know how to cancel the 20 year contract they have with him and thousands of others. We produce more electricity than we use too. Figure that one out.

Our hydro rates went from 6 cents per kilowatt hour to 12 for off peak and 18 for on peak electricity use...... in less than five years.... idiots......

As you learned, deniers have been offering large sums to scientists who are willing to write what the deniers want. On such scientist got rich on the scheme.

Turns out it wouldn't do very much. The vast majority of photosynthesis takes place in the oceans. However, it would be possible to increase photosynthesis by dumping huge amounts of soluble iron over vast areas of the ocean.

Iron fertilization is the intentional introduction of iron to the upper ocean to stimulate a phytoplankton bloom. This is intended to enhance biological productivity, which can benefit the marine food chain and is under investigation in hopes of increasing carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere. Iron is a trace element necessary for photosynthesis in all plants. It is highly insoluble in sea water and is often the limiting nutrient for phytoplankton growth. Large algal blooms can be created by supplying iron to iron-deficient ocean waters.

A number of ocean labs, scientists and businesses are exploring fertilization as a means to sequester atmospheric carbon dioxide in the deep ocean, and to increase marine biological productivity which is hypothesized by some to decline as a result of climate change. Since 1993, thirteen international research teams have completed ocean trials demonstrating that phytoplankton blooms can be stimulated by iron addition.[1] However, controversy remains over the effectiveness of atmospheric CO
2 sequestration and ecological effects.[2] The most recent open ocean trials of ocean iron fertilization were in 2009 (January to March) in the South Atlantic by project Lohafex, and in July 2012 in the North Pacific off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, by the Haida Salmon Restoration Corporation (HSRC).[3]

It would be much more costly than most present methods of reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. But that might change if the technology improves.

Try that story to the people in the Western US. Because the snowline is getting higher and higher each year, there's less snowmelt in the spring, and less water in the rivers.

And the Upper Midwest already has enough water.

The whole point is...........it's not created or driven by CO2 going from 0.038% to 0.040% in the atmosphere.....
Stop telling us that taking money from me is going to stop it.
What in the world are they thinking they can do to stop the mega climate machine of this planet.
How arrogant of man, to think that they can control the temperature of the globe.
It is certainly not going to happen by putting up solar panels , windmills and driving Tesla cars.
God is in control, man is powerless to change His plan.
The wealthy powerful men will just get richer on this hoax.

That's no longer debatable. We know that the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has caused temperatures to rise. And we know why.

Stop telling us that taking money from me is going to stop it.

Stop pretending I told you that. Notice that in Iowa, for instance, the cost of electricity is lower than in most states, because wind generators now produce over 25% of the state's electricity.

What in the world are they thinking they can do to stop the mega climate machine of this planet.

We've been altering climate regionally for thousands of years. We finally got to the point where we can do it globally.

How arrogant of man, to think that they can control the temperature of the globe.

Turns out we can raise it. But "control" is something else.

It is certainly not going to happen by putting up solar panels , windmills and driving Tesla cars.

Everything helps. And it matters.

God is in control

He made us stewards of this planet. And He is not obligated to save us from our behavior. Wealthy and powerful men have tried for a long time to hide this from you. Because they can make more money by hiding it. But it's gone past the point where that is possible.

Reality isn't required to fit your needs.
