Some bibles contain more books than the others.

Yes: indeed - Some bibles contain more books than the others.

A friend's bible contains about four or five extra books. I have also heard about the other books of Moses other than the Torah. Question is, has anyone read these other books (not necessarily Moses' other books)? Can one quote from them or apply them in our live's 'whatever'?

My friend told me they are highly inspirational and he loves reading the stories.

I have not read them at all. Do I need to read them. Can I get such bibles? What do you think?

Again, the purpose of this thread is simple: Can we also read the extra books and quote from them?

Since I have no way of knowing which is the true bible/complete bible....I will keep reading what I currently have.

Don't add and don't remove. Is mine guilty of this Revelation warning by God???

The Roman Catholic Bibles contain the Apocrypha, which generations of evangelical Christians have not held to be inspired. (The so called Protestant Apocrypha, i.e., which was traditionally used by the Anglican church) had even more Apocryphal books than the Roman Catholic one.)

What Bible believing Christians need to do, however, is confidently say of the Scriptures: 'Thy Word is truth' (John 17.17).

the apocrypha does contain the book of the macabees, which is a historical account. however, it is deemed not to be the inspired word of God.

The only one I have ever had or know of is the New Jerusalem bible, it was a gift from someone who didn't know the difference. I no longer have it. I have gone online for an overview simply because I have a sister-in-law who trys to convert me so I wanted to see where she was coming from but I didn't see anything that would backup her beliefs compared to mine. All the books are in the OT and not about Jesus that I could tell. There's also a few added verses to books such as Daniel.
I would never study from it or quote it as God's Word.

I believe our Protestant bible contains what we need to know and we have the Holy Spirit to teach us. What more could we need?

I would be afraid to delve into Jewish writings other than our OT because it appears that there are several and they don't always agree with each other. ?? Different sects??
That is best left to those more discerning than I am. Jason and Jeff maybe.

We use the old testament scriptures that are used by the Jewish people. THEY dont accept the books in question as being sacred. Both lutherans and episcopalians consider the aprochapha as good reading but not to be trusted, much as we might enjoy reading a historical novel that gives a lot of historical background to the Bible but we would never stake our lives on them. THE BIG FISHERMAN, THE DEAR AND GLORIOUS PHYSICIAN ARE two that come to mind. So if you think of the aprochrapha as fiction with sometimes containing a few facts such as quotes from the true Scriptures, or as a history book such as the accounts written by Josephus, then there may be nothing wrong with reading them. IT would be best , however, to read the recognized Bible and become very familiar with it first, so that you may become acquainted with the Spirit of Truth and thereby be able to discern the spirit of error. That way you wont be lead astray.

Problem is: People who own bibles with extra verses or chapters may tell you God inspired those verse/chapter. Discernment is important, maybe. :dunno :confused :shrug
