Classik, despite this shocking photo...people will continue to smoke. I cannot understand how people can see the dangers and continue to do this.

Hi Classik,

I think smoking or using tobacco is a means of receiving the feelings of comfort. You don't have to search for it. You can get it anytime you want to. The consequences aren't seen until the end; although the picture you provided is helpful. I quit using snuff after using it for over ten years. It was very difficult at first. That should be understood by those who are not addicted to tobacco. Addiction will overcome pictures like the one you posted. I feel sad for those who are addicted, but I think we learn there are consequences to our behavior.

I am reading about this now. When you see stuff like that it makes you go to your comfort behavior which for smokers is ironically smoking. Just like the local news tells you about random killings and people buy products on their commercials. Doesn't work if you are already a smoker. It also makes you feel bad about yourself and shame increases smoking.

Surely Christmas is a time for smoking?

Hi Aardverk,

I think it's helpful. I don't think any smoker wants to see that picture, but it's a grace to be able to see just what the consequences are. But I don't think it will keep a person from smoking. Simple answer: Nope.

Yeah I too had a smoking co-worker that most likely suffered from COPD, or an early stage of it. He was coughing a lot and his breathing was incredibly loud.
Thinking of him and the sorry state his body is in after decades of smoking helped me quit. Withdrawal is so much less suffering than COPD - not even speaking of cancer.

my uncle has it and he is honest enough to say pot also did it too him too. smoked a ton of pot too. doc says that also caused his copd.

He probably mixed tobacco with pot when he built his joints? Well, as far as I know the pure pot smoke is almost as dangerous as tobacco or mixed smoke. People claim pot smoking is harmless, but that's a lie. All things considered it's probably not as dangerous as alcohol, but it's not harmless at all.

i have seen poeple do worse. cement inhalation while cutting it and not wearing the proper resperation devices.
