Hi Brother @MikeS, I don’t know if this will make sense to you, but everything I have ever heard from Mormon choirs such as the one you posted by The BYU Choir, including the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sounds strictly mechanical to me; no heart so to speak. I’ll leave an example from a woman changing a similar presentation to something real starting at 3:38 of the video into the newer song.

I've sung in two different church's choir.
Singing with the feeling that you're thinking of is not really done when singing in a choir.
It will always be more mechanical.
The true feeling can only be expressed by the song being sung by only one person who feels deeply what the song is saying.

Choirs are taught to put feeling in the song, but not to that extent.
At least the choirs I've been in, but I do notice that this is a general rule.

I understand your point Eugene, but we're not restricted to just one type of music to enjoy. I've just posted three very different pieces, I like them all.

A traditiional choir is not the same as a gospel choir. The gospel choir is SUPPOSED to have feeling.
