Something Funny You Gotta Try!!

This might be better in the Jokes Forum, but we can laugh in the General too. (at least, I hope you do). First, play this youtube song while you're reading my story.

So, last night, a friend and I went to a pub to talk and have a beer. I wish this was my idea, but I'll fess up that it was his.

Imagine that he saw "What's New Pussy Cat" by old time crooner, Tom Jones in the jute box. We put all $5 on this song over and over. And then we sat back with our beer and observed the patrons. :lol The first time, a few people thought it was cute. The second time, there was kind of a... really?... response. Remember how the song starts off with a big WHAA WHAA WHAA? By the time we got to number 6, and it broke out with that intro, we thought there was going to be a mutiny! :)

But I didn't tell you this part. #7 is where we threw in a "It's Not Unusual", and I don't think I've ever felt such relief come from this song in all my life! Smiles were on every face in the house!

And then... Then came #8... "WHAA WHAA WHAAAA, What's new pussy cat...". :toofunny The place went crazy! Some went crazy with the joke and sang along. Others went to the manager, and others went to pull the cord on the jute box!

My friend said he heard about this somewhere, but if I can't have you believe I'm that creative, I'd like you to believe my friends are! Try it some time. It will make your day! :p

:lol lololol....that brings back a memory.

With me it wasn't because I was trying to mess with the minds of a bunch of possibly drunken people...it's just that it was the first time I had ever used a juke box and I wasn't sure if I got the song I wanted because it didn't start to play....I didn't realize there was a queue of songs playing. So, I hit my choice five times.

This was at a swimming lagoon at a local reservior. I remember it quite well, a beautiful California summer afternoon...sun shining, the smell of coconut sun-tan lotion wafting in the air. The jukebox was piped out so that the entire area could listen to the music. Must have been able to hear that jukebox for a distance of oh...at least a half mile...encompassed the little day camp area.

I was a little bummed that I used an entire .50 and didn't even get to hear my choice. I went back to where we had our picnic set up and resigned myself to listen to other people's choice of music.

Then joy!!!! My song started playing. Yay. It wasn't an "oldie" either (even back in the day of .10 jukebox songs "What's New Pussycat" was an oldie). Nope, this was one of the top ten hits of the day. I was happy that my choice of music was on for all the folks in the entire area to enjoy.

The song wound down to it's final, poignant moments...because you know, everyone likes to listen to poignant, sad, and reflective songs when they are swimming on a summer's afternoon.

Then, it started playing again...and again...and again...and yet ONE MORE TIME!!!!

Audible groans could be heard throughout the area. By the third playing, some people actually packed their picnics up and left.

My song of choice for that happy-go-lucky summer afternoon at the lake?

Don McLean's dirge dedicated to the death of Buddy Holly: "American Pie".

Yep a song that lasts over 8 minutes, played 5 times in a row. Almost a full hour of driving the Chevy to the levee, singing "This will be the day that I die". Oh yeah!!!

Don't worry you two, I expect there's a cure for it

Well then we'd be cured from what we're suffering from, but would be suffering from the cure!

btw Mike...I just know you think that little kitty in the video is cute..now admit it, that's one of the cutest kitties you've ever seen...especially as it's pouncing around to Tom Jones...cute and you have to admit it!

Okay, so I should have realized before I hit the "submit" button, that this event would never translate in a post. Believe me though, seeing the anguish on everyone's faces as this song went over 12 runs was hilarious! But, I guess you had to be there.

The good news is that my choice of videos to go with the song, along with Dora's comment, gives me the opportunity to trail off in a better direction. I realize now how long it's been since I voiced my aversion to cats.

Dora, kittens are cute when they're on a video. The reasons they make that grade are that they can't slither up to me uninvited and get their cat hair all over me. When kittens grow into cats, they don't even look cute on a video. It's always the same. If a cat is anywhere in my vicinity, she will slither her bony cat-sack over to me and begin the process of ruining my day. There it is. Cat hair on my clothes that Hoover can't get off.

Yes, Dora, that kitten was the cutest kitten I ever saw, but cats have the bar set so low, It's not hard to be the cutest kitten I ever saw. And the best part is, one click and she's off my screen. POOF!!! No cat hair on me! :thumbsup

No, no...the story translated quite well. My family encountered a drunk at a restuarant the other night...of course it had to be the same night we were chaperoning Viola on her date with none other than the preacher's son. Anyway, this guy is three sheets to the wind and couldn't figure out if he wanted a friend or a fight. Steve sort of kept him off balance by discussing quantum physics with him while I got the kids out of there. When I read your story, I kept thinking about how that guy would have looked had "What's New Pussycat" been playing over and over and over while Steve explained that according to quantum mechanics, he was not only standing before him, he was standing behind him and by the bar and by the bathroom and outside. Just might have sobered him up!
:toofunny

But, on to more important matters

Mike...you do realize that cats and kitties will be a part of the new earth? And, as part of your special sanctification process...your mansion is going to be the "crazy cat lady house"....and you will stay there, until you learn to love all of God's creation!

Dora,

I say we keep the cats and throw Mike into the outer darkness. :lol

BTW, your post compelled me to fire up this time tested song of yours! :thumbsup It still is #2 on my all time list of favorite songs. :yes

I'll love 'em in paradise, because in paradise, cats will be more like dogs. When all God's creation is restored to perfected states, cats will lose their cat-like properties that have been dragging them down since the fall. :)

Dora,

I say we keep the cats and throw Mike into the outer darkness. :lol

If I'm separated from cats, that will only be a good thing! I'll miss you guys, despite your unkind words, but hey... no more cats! :thumbsup

"What's New Pussy Cat" is your #2? Pink Floyd and WNPC... You're an eclectic dude, Vic! :lol How would you feel about it after 12 straight plays?

Sorry cat lovers. I've tried to make a deal with them, but they never seem to accept it. They always come slithering my way. I think I'd like them just fine if they just stayed on the other side of the room.

lets see a tiny kitty that cant feed it self. they dont do well here in america if they arent around humans. Dogs, on the other hand do hunt in packs and do survive.

i have seen that first hand in afghanistan. the dogs if we treated them nice would actually without training warn us of hajis.

cats. hid all the time and didnt do much in the reduction of the mice problem:bigfrown
