Bible Study Something That Has Always Bothered Me

I'm on my way to bed for the night. However before I say my prayers and go to sleep, I was just thinking about watching The Prince of Egypt and there has always been something that has bugged me about the whole entire story of Moses. I realize that his mother was only trying to save his life (and did so in the end) but isn't sending a poor defenseless baby out into the water pushing it just a bit? I mean what if he drowned or got eaten by a crocodile. (they were already eating babies anyway) I mean I know the Bible said that she fixed the basket so it wouldn't leak but what if she made a mistake?



Edit; I just discovered that his sister kept watch but she couldn't possibly stay standing there every waking moment. And I think the Bible mentioned Moses nursing on his own biological mother but I can't find the actual verses. Is this the only time he saw her?

Moses was God's plan . There was not going to be any mistake.
His sister was also close by watching out for the baby

Remember that his sister was watching him from the banks of the Nile and they probably knew that the Pharaoh's daughter would be there.
ANd, of course, he didn't drown and wasn't eaten by a croc.

As I stated before last night, I realize that it was part of his mother's (and God's) plan for him that he would live and be safe. But what happened when his sister had to eat, sleep, and relieve herself? Who was watching the baby then? I think that it brings up a rather interesting question.

we are not told exactly how long he was in the river.. God knew what he was doing.. Simple faith

It does not seem from the text of Exodus chapter 2 that there was much time in the water for Moses:

Exodus 2 New King James Version (NKJV)​

2 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.​

5 Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”​

7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”​

8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.”​

Not if the God of all creation has a hedge around him and the host of heaven is protecting him. Moses mother did what God wanted her to do, she was obedient. It is written: "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father."

True, but I think she was also doing it because she loved her son enough to give him up so that he would live.

As Gods chosen people, we need to live our faith out.
In Genesis, God told Abraham how his descendents would go to Egypt and then return to the promised land. Fast forward to Moses, and the Israelites are crying out to God, and God hears them, just as was told to Abraham and passed down to the Israelites for 400 years.

We know that the current Pharoh was ruthless. And was killing the male children of the Israelites. At the same time, the Israelites knew God was going to send them a delivered.

So, the parents of Moses put Him in a basket, trusting God would take care of him. It was that or let the Egyptians murder him.

Our faith is active. We have to live it out, and sometimes it is difficult. Even to the point of taking a child, and praying for God to be it's caring Father.

I know, that's me just getting picky but I am really particular about things like that I guess. Which is why it upsets me that Him isn't ever capitalized in my Message Bible even when it's mentioning God or Jesus. Hey by the way Reba,.. I think you becoming a member is probably the best thing that could ever happen. I mean granted you taught me some valuable lessons when you were an administrator but you seem kind of cool now all of a sudden lol I just keep asking myself who are you and what have you done with the real Reba? The one I used to know that was like this... and now all of a sudden you're this. :shades Lol

If you go back to Exodus 1:15-22 this was Pharaohs planing Israel's extinction. Moses mother hid him for three months and when she could no longer hide him she prepared a basket that would not leak or sink and sent him to safety as this was Gods plan for Moses and all he went through in Egypt so God would have been with him going down the Nile and placing him in the hands of Pharaohs daughter. I would think it pained his mother, but she knew what was best for her child's safety.
