yup. its me. for my area, the storm comes in tomorrow and tarries thru early Monday. shouldn't be a big, big deal for my area...some ice, etc....but, as with anything, it depends on your "social location."
I live in a small southern city. we have a big homeless problem, despite what on paper looks like a booming economy. lots of drugs, poverty, under-paying jobs, plus...honestly, based on how difficult it was for me to get into a decent apt. -with- my "well-to-do" parents paying for everything, I can only imagine how a working person (or family) with no one backing them might run into trouble. so...
I pray for my parents (they're in a small town in the same county) and also for pretty much everyone affected, especially the more and most vulnerable people. the thing about poverty around here, in this day and age, is...its so rampant, and its almost...invisible. the homeless person, the person paying by the week in the cheap motel...more obvious examples. what about the person secretlly getting benefits in an OK apartment, small house, etc.? I'm pretty sure what goes on here is typical or becoming typical of America, as a whole....lots of poverty, many many more struggling to get by, and then some people who are on the spectrum from "well-to-do" on up to straight up rich. -sigh- not to get on the soap box, but..there doesn't seem to be a solid, middle-middle class around here, now. most people got pushed down, some people (My parents included) got boosted up...
-sigh- i'll be OK. even though on paper I live off disability for "severe mental illness," in truth...I live in a nice, well-heated condo my parents were able to buy for me. I have food and drinks and snacks and stuff to do and....my life is simple, I'm not anyone's idea of "cool," but...I"m healthy, safe, well taken care of, and increasingly thankful, 1st to God and then 2nd to my parents.
OK. per usual, this kinda...rambled. just remember, the next time a snowstorm or earthquake or "heat wave" comes on the news...a lot of the victims are people who were vulnerable or maybe barely hanging on, anyway. :-(
thanks, y'all.
