Stress

I am completely stressed out. I need to find God's will for my life, whether it be to remain single on this earth or get married. I don't want to marry but people I'm around, including my family, say I have to. I just don't know what to do. By the way, I'm 20 going on 21.

Why you don't want to get married ? Is there any specific reason ?

I don't really know enough to give advice on things like this, but I can say that you don't have to do it just because she wants you to. You're 20, she doesn't rule your life.

People do seem to think that you need a boyfriend or something. There's nothing wrong with not wanting a boyfriend, though. I'm 19 and have never had one.

I don't want to get close to anyone emotionally. Just want to be single.

You will not feel the impact of it now, since you are just in early 20s. But, when you grow older, and seeing all the little children and happy families around you in your neighborhood, you will die every day regretting the decision you made now if it is too late. You will have enough time to regret and weep until you die (because these days there are many old people living alone with no children - My neighbor is living alone for more than 10 years, childless and she is in her 90s with a pacemaker in her heart just dying everyday). In your old age and the strength in your body is gone, you will have enough time to think, re-think and re-think and regret the mistake you do now. When your sickness in old age comes by and nearing your death, you will be alone and none of your children will be there to bury you. A stranger will bury your body and a sojourner will eat the fruit of your labor, for you don't like to have a fruit of your womb. Forbidding to marry is a doctrine of the devil as in 1Tim 4:3. You forbidding to marry yourself is devil deceiving yourself to give you more suffering to you in years to come. Children are a blessing from God. Rejecting a blessing will have it's consequences.

So, you want to reject the blessings from God and take heed to doctrine of the devil ?

Praying for the right husband in Christ is something I would advise. Not to marry is certainly from the devil, for Heavenly Father married and Christ His Son is Engaged. Family is a design by God and the way He wants for men and women to be and have children.

Felix, no offense but you are nuts. Talking like that doesn't help your case either. What about Paul's teachings? What about Jesus saying that some people can be single to help further the kingdom with no distractions? An unmarried woman cares about the Lord and has more time for Him.

Being married and being single are both acceptable in the Lord, with both acceptable ways of serving Him. It all depends on what God's will is and His plans for certain people.

Marriage is a blessing and very sacred in God's eyes but there's nothing wrong with being single.

Plus some people never end up marrying because no one wants them. They are God's children still. You're really offensive.

I am not getting married.

It is you who said : "I need to find God's will for my life, whether it be to remain single on this earth or get married" then you said "I am not getting married". God is not your slave to fit His will according to your will.

Also, Paul's teachings must only be built upon Christ's foundation, and it is the same Paul who said, forbidding to marry is a doctrine of devil. People who can't marry spoken by Christ are actually Eunuchs who actually can't marry even if they want to at a later point.

I am not speaking about people who truly want to marry and can't marry, but you will get your time to think about it and truly regret.

Anyway, I just responded to a thread and gave my views. Certain things can never be reversed in life.

Im not saying He is my slave. He's not because I have a real relationship with Him. I'm just saying I don't want to get married so I hope that's His will for my life. Im gonna stop writing now.

I am very sorry that this has stressed you. It really isn't intended to be so. You know, there is only a few times in the bible where God declared something to be very bad. One of those things happened to be the emotional void in man's heart. God created a woman to fill that void, so that he could declare it to be very good. When the time comes, you will run into a man of God, and he will declare you as the one to fill that void. It may seem like you don't want to be with someone now, but it will change when that man stumbles into your life. Or should I say, when God guides him into your life.

If God want's to pair you with another, he will do so. He has put both men and women on the earth to complete each other physically, and emotionally. While Paul brings up a good point, he still makes it clear that marriage is very important to us. I know it frustrates you, and you may hate the idea now. However; I believe one day your time will come, and you will change your mind. Not because you wan't your mind to change, but because God want's it to. Trust me, once you are one with another, you will not regret it. It is the ultimate emotional fulfillment.

"But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."
~I Corinthians 7:6-9 KJV

I'd gather from this verse that marriage isn't a requirement. Maybe it is God's will for you to marry one day, but maybe it isn't.

Jesus'sGirl, I'm sorry you had to endure that by felix. Felix, I'm sorry, but that was about as effective as treating a cut with a hacksaw. Do you believe you will scare her into such darkness that she will marry out of fear?

JG, marriage is intended to be, and can be, beautiful. I do believe we were created with that in mind, but if you live your life for Him, He will honor your decision. Freedom from such rules comes with the blood of Christ.

There are many joys that come with marriage and parenting, and I hope you change your mind so you can experience them. I suspect you will... for the right reasons.

Welcome to CFnet. :)

The word used for permission simply means Paul is saying this on his own based on his experience and knowledge. This is in no way from God.

G4774 συγγνώμη suggnome (soong-gno'-may) n.
1. fellow knowledge, i.e. concession
[from a compound of G4862 and G1097]
KJV: permission
Root(s): G4862, G1097

Secondly, the letter is a response/reply for a letter from Corinth as in 1Cor 7:1.

The first line of the the chapter taken into context says,
1Cor 7:1-2 Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

Paul is giving a very specific advise as reply based on that original letter to him. Since you quoted I Corinthians 7:6-9 from the same chapter, if I say to you (don't be offended), because of sexual immorality you must marry, doesn't that assume you are sexually immoral and asking you to marry ? Hence, Paul is giving a "specific" advise for a sexually immoral people in that church. Paul also gives clues in those verses as in 1Cor 7:5 ... your lack of self-control, that they are a sexually immoral people without self control.

Thanks Questdriven. Although I disagree that a man will complete me and that It's the most emotional fulfillment because not everyone can get married so they would have missed out. Jesus completes us. He is the one that loves us more than anyone else could.
