Tax payers pay for sex change

I'm not transgendered, so I really don't have to much stake in this issue. My understanding is that Gender disphoria or GID is a real disorder. I agree that it is a completely awkward and hard issue to tackle. My opinion is that if the person wants to do it and thinks it will help them with their issues, its between them and their counselors.

My idea of it being covered by the government is that of disinterest. I'm not a big fan of circumcision but the government covers it in their health plans. I understand why Christains are up in arms with this issue, but I personally think that if we took every single religion's faiths and didn't allow the government to cover anything a religion says offends them, then we wouldn't have a health plan worth a lick of salt.

I think if most here are really concerned about the effects of GID and the people that have it, it would be more productive to try and seek out the individual people personally instead of going on another "BAN THIS!" campaign.

Just my opinion.

Let me break it down from the inside (spoken like an athlete who peaked in high school and wants to tell you what it's like in the pro's ;) )

[RANT] I work for a managed care company. I'll let you in on a dirty little secret that's so highly guarded, only about 5 millions people know it.

Managed care companies jump at every opportunity to strip procedures that aren't medically necessary from your benefit package.
:shocked!

There, I said it. It's out in the open (as it has been for a long time). Do you know what prevents most non-medically necessary surgeries from being yanked? Medicare and government programs! Taaadaaaahh!! The golden goose! Here's one for example - automatic breast pumps for new mothers. What mothers and infants did before automatic breast pumps, I don't know, but it's a miracle that God sustained the human race all this time. It would seem perfectly logical that this should be paid for by the member as a personal choice, right? I mean, they only have to look down to find a cheaper alternative. Not so fast, slugger! Send every mother home with a breast pump for up to $500, so she can ditch it after a week when it just becomes more of a pain than what God Designed.

All this talk about what managed care companies pay for that isn't necessary is hogwash. They are forced to pay for it, because the government sets the bar. This is the same government that denies many true medically necessary procedures. The same one that bogs down the system in red tape so bad that physicians give up begging for reimbursement and find other ways of making up the money - like doubling up scheduled appointments so we are forced to wait 2 hours in the waiting room.[/RANT]

Mike, I was only stating my oppinion about the idea of the government covering Gender reassignment. I agree that the medical system is overly burdened. I didn't say any different.

I only addressed what I thought of the government covering such a procedure, and my advice to Christians about where to go from here.

That is all. I don't see why my post caused you to rant. I do find it interesting to get your opinion on the matter, but I also don't being lectured to as if I'm the cause. Do you understand where I'm coming from?

MBS, I was being fesecious with the [RANT] thing. I thought my little poke at aging high school athletes would have set the tone I was aiming for. No lecture intended toward you. I have seen the premise about managed care companies in various threads, so I thought I'd set the record straight.

MCO's stay competitive in PRIVATE ENTERPRIZE by focusing on benefit packages that have as little non-med-nec procedures as possible and attract would-be employer groups by keeping their cost of ding business down. This means laying off their employees more and negotiating rates of payment to hospitals more aggressively (that's what I do).

I promise you several things in the US if Obama care goes live.

1 - less seats occupied in our medical schools
2 - denial of necessary procedures based on the projected lifespan of he patient
3 - more crazy procedures like sex changes scheduled throughout the country
4 - an extreme shortage of physicians when our current ones retire or quit and few young ones are coming up behind them

The notion of my tax dollars paying for a sex change is as ridiculous as my tax dollars paying for abortions is EVIL.
