Tennis is for Whimps

Alright. I played tennis a lot growing up. Anyone who thinks it is light duty, hasn't played a full 5 set match in 90 degree heat. You'll sweat off 20 pounds in that time.

So in first round Wimbledon action, we have a match going 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 70-68!!

70-68!!!??? Are you kidding me??!! Anyone who knows the basic structure of a tennis match knows this is absolutely insane! :shocked! How does someone battle through that physically AND mentally? 138 games in the final set alone!!!

That would be like:
A hockey game going 20 overtimes!
Baseball going 30 innings!

And all that time, it's you V the other guy! Everything is on you. Unbelievable! :crazy :crazy :crazy

i know better than to assume that tennis is for the whimps, though there no manly struggle like my sport bjj :D

I like tennis. I think that anyone who played it would know it is certainly not for whimps, so I am in complete agreement with you two. :thumb

Ok, thanks.

But the point of my post was - - - 138 games in the final set!!!

138 games!!! Oh, no they didn't! :crazy

I can't imagine that many games either. I think my arm would fall off. They should have a cap. My oldest is in Junior High and she had to go a lot of games against a girl once also. I forget what the final count was, but my daughter lost. She would have won if she hadn't tired out.

You can't put a cap on a Wimbledon match. That would be like having a shoot-out decide a Stanley Cup Finals game. :nono

This was just a wild anomaly. :crazy

Golf, football, basketball, and baseball are better than tennis.

I will take tennis over golf and basketball any day!

It's a very enduring sport and to have a match span over the course of three days is borderline insanity! That was the only saving grace; they did get to rest a bit. But still... :crazy

One match and I'm gasping for air. :D Tiebreaker? I forfeit! LOL :lol

I guess I concur, especially football!

But to Vic's point, and mine, tennis is physically exhausting! This historic match was unbelievable! A 5-set match can be brutal without adding tie-breakers.

You never see professional tennis players out of shape. Baseball and golf? Fatties everywhere. And the fact that a player in the Senior PGA can compete with PGA players in their prime - ever - is enough to question the athleticism of golfers. Hand/eye coordination, yes. Athleticism... not so much. ;)
