Thanksgiving and Christmas

:toofunny This has got to be the funniest thread I have ever read on this forum!

Let's see if I can sum up what Thanksgiving is all about for you Lamplady:

Every year Americans eat too much food in order to thank the celebrated celibate rappers, ll cool j, Eminem, Dr. Dre as well as Lewis and Mrs. Cranman!

Got it now?

Why is it funny? Are you laughing at my ignorance? Ah well - mum use to tell me I musn't show it up but I think it's a bit daft - rather say something and learn then say nothing and remain dumb lool!

Thanksgiving sounds respectful now. Before I thought it was a bit weird for NA's - now I know - all good :) ...

So to all those who celebrate, (hope the word is right lol), it, enjoy your thanksgiving! :-)

God bless!

If you look at the timing of Dora's post, I think it's clear she was reacting to my off-the-hook sense of humor. In this particular case, I was outstanding! Calling Danus out for saying "rappers". :lol

I'm so funny! :rolling

Ah, I would never laugh at you, Lamplady, only with you! :yes

It was just...here you ask a perfectly legitimate question with a rather simple answer and before you know it, we have celibate rappers and Jason's wife involved.

Indians??

"For a long while I didn't know what it was about, then I was led to believe it did involve thanking Indians - so this celebration has nothing to do with them then?"

Of course so the story goes, the first winter in the Plantation was horrendous, since they weren't prepared for it - many died, and then the next Spring the survivors were assisted by the local natives (who KNEW how to survive) in their efforts to produce provisions for the year and the next winter. And in the time of harvest they thanked God and the local natives for their survival.

SO the symbology connected with the day includes "Indians", and "Pilgrims", and "Turkeys", of course.

But in the final analysis, it's about (or should be about) a day of reflection on the good/blessings that we've experienced in the last year.

In my case at the age of 68 - after 13 Heart attacks, two bypasses, and 16 stents, I'm still "functional" and working full time in a company that DIDN'T go under in the recent (and continuing) economic chaos. And I'll gather with my wife, four kids, and their kids who also are still afloat and economically "stable", and we'll thank God for that -

Oh - and there'll be Turkey, stuffing, and a BUNCH of other stuff that I'll eat too much of, y'all.

Thank you :) ... seems like you have a lot to be thankful for ... see link in some post of mine above ...
Funny, seems as though this thing almost existed in the UK yet we barely have time to celebrate harvest let alone have anything to thank God for if you look on the culture today ... sad ... :( ...

Danus, I hate to pile on, but you also said this...

Cool J, Eminem, Run DMC... I'm not into rap, so that's about where my list runs out! I would only recognize Eminem's face. :D

I once gave a business presentation where I misspelled the world "Title" on a power point slide.......Tittle. Now I'm a pretty good speaker/talker. I think fast and I'm clever. I was able to get out of it, but I can not divulge what I said to do so.

Well, since we are in our "correction" mode...

There were no Indians here when the new settlers arrived; they were still in India, waiting patiently for the electronic and communication revolution to arrive, so we could outsource our labor to them and thus, weakening our economy. :D

I guess it's payback for what the White Man did to the Natives who has settled here before us. Down with Whitey! :toofunny:toofunny

I pray everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving Day here in the US of A. :praying
