That great country - AMERICA

The same thing that determines whether an individual is a Christian or not.

Obedience to the Word.

Who's interpretation of the Word?
imo,
We are imperfect people even as believers. Even the most pious don't get everything right all the time. Jesus is the only one who can oversee a truly Godly nation and if imperfect people have any say in it we will mess up something even in our best of times.

don't you dare ruin the Christian rights view of things about a Christian nation.

How about yours?

Matthew 22
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Or Paul's.

Romans 13
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Gary I just love your posts, 99% or more of the time, including these last two.

You know what I see though....
Yesterday I was reading an article about the NFL and Adrian Peterson. It was a local paper in Minnesota. They had polled Vikings fans about what they thought. Then I read the some comments section. Most people were as appalled as I am about the injuries he inflicted on his 4 yr. old son.
But there was a Christian on there who insisted that he had the right to do this to his son. There was another who defended him, saying he was not a child abuser and should not be punished. He posted all kinds of scriptures to support his view.
Any man the size of Peterson that cannot give a naked, 4yr old child a spanking without inflicting wounds on his genitalia that man is a monster. For a Christian to defend that behavior with Bible scriptures is disgusting to me. I'll take a bleeding heart liberal any day over that kind of a Christian.
So that is why I say, laws by who's interpretation of scripture? :crying
I don't want those kinds of Christians making laws in the country where I live.

I understand what you're saying. To the best of my knowledge there are no scriptures in the New Testament that allows for a parent to beat a child. It says we are not to provoke our children to wrath. Doesn't say anything about leaving open cuts and welts. I don't agree with what Peterson did to that child. Discipline shouldn't leave physical or psychological scars.

Thanks for the compliment. :hug It's always nice to hear.
