Luther's pronouncements that the Pope was the antichrist led to the following:

Francisco Ribera (1537–1591) was a Jesuit doctor of theology, born in Spain. He began writing a lengthy (500 page) commentary in 1585 on the book of Revelation (Apocalypse) titled In Sacrum Beati Ioannis Apostoli, & Evangelistiae Apocalypsin Commentarij, and published it about the year 1590. He died in 1591 at the age of fifty-four, so he was not able to expand on his work or write any other commentaries on Revelation. In order to remove the Catholic Church from consideration as the antichrist, Ribera proposed that the first few chapters of the Apocalypse applied to ancient pagan Rome, and the rest he limited to a yet future period of 3½ literal years, immediately prior to the second coming. So, according to Ribera, the 1260 days and 42 months and 3½ times of prophecy were not 1260 years as based on the year-day principle (Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:6), but a literal 3½ years. Therefore, none of the book of Revelation had any application to the Middle Ages or the papacy, but to the future; to a period immediately prior to the second coming, hence the name Futurism. If this interpretation is correct, the reading and exposition of Revelation is unnecessary; a position that is in direct opposition to the reason it was written (Rev. 1:1-3).

The Futuristic system of interpretation was instigated by the Council of Trent (1545–1563) as a response to the Protestant reformation. Jesuit priests, Francisco Ribera and Robert Bellarmine, over several decades, developed the proposition that everything in Revelation from chapters 4-22 was to come to pass sometime in the future, thereby removing all incriminating interpretations against the Papacy.

The papacy did not eradicate any of those three tribes; I guarantee you will not be able to provide any historical accounts showing that the Bishop of Rome was responsible for their destruction.

I'd love to see you show from history that the papacy ruled the world beginning in the 6th Century. It took the bishop of Rome several hundred years after that point just to consolidate temporal power over local territories within Italy, let alone all of Europe. What was taken away from the papacy in 1798 was temporal sovereignty over the city of Rome and the Papal Estates, and what was returned in 1929 was sovereign recognition over.....110 acres within Rome? I don't agree with RCC doctrine regarding many things, but I don't hold them in contempt for their beliefs, either. The universal church of Christ has too many enemies in the world today to continue these ridiculous and pointless internecine squabbles.

If you haven't noticed, Islam is spreading like wildfire and if people in the church spent half as much time and energy fighting that as we do each other, maybe the world wouldn't be in the shape it's in.

We're called to love one another and to be salt and light. How is that possible when so-called Christians are spreading this ignorant bile all over the web???

Where does 2 Thessalonians 2:4 even mention an antichrist? It DOES NOT and frankly, nor does Daniel 7. Though I am far from a Catholic or Papal apologist, I must stand behind the scriptures and state that accusations being attributed to the Papacy are not accurate.

And furthermore, what exactly is this "The Antichrist" that is spoken of? In the one solitary passage of scripture in 1 John that uses the term, we see that there is not one singular endtime antichrist "beast power", but rather that there were even at that time, MANY ANTICHRISTS! (and no Pope by the way).
I can see how the papacy and by extension the RC Church can be read into such passages, BUT the reader must be honest and admit that he or she is placing the RC Church into a scripture that is speaking of something in the past that is entirely different. We must stop letting our preconceptions and prejudices cloud how we understand the scriptures.

but that is for another topic and i do have issues with the rcc but am not one of those the pope is the anti-christ. i'm sure that if some wanted we could dig up the ellen g white mistakes and errs and what not. thus, what would that produce,why not look at what the bible says?
