The Apple

I don't know if this has anything to do with the answer TOB has in mind, but I once read that the part of the Apple that we eat is not fruit. It is bark. I think the inner-most part where the seeds are (core) is considered fruit.
Yes,the inner part is the core.We don't eat that part.Isn't there the skin, meat and core?

I read a long time ago that the meat part is actually a type of soft bark. Like the bark on the tree but edible. I will have to look it up to say for sure.

I am not sure.. :shrug

I just spent 20 minutes looking for that but couldn't find it. I did find this

Apples aren’t true fruits! Botanically speaking, true fruits grow from the ovaries of the flower, yet apples develop from the receptacle of the flower.

from wikipedia> (fwiw, test all)
"The forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden
.........showcasing the apple as a symbol of sin.
Though the forbidden fruit of Eden in the Book of Genesis is not identified, popular Christian tradition has held that it was an apple that Eve coaxed Adam to share with her.[33] The origin of the popular identification with a fruit unknown in the Middle East in biblical times is found in confusion between the Latin words mālum (an apple) and mălum (an evil), each of which is normally written malum.[34] The tree of the forbidden fruit is called "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" in Genesis 2:17, and the Latin for "good and evil" is bonum et malum.[35] "

(from other sources it was 'known' that there were no apple trees around Eden at the time of Adam and Eve)

I have only met 2 botanists in my life, (who speak botanically), and one of them was on Star Trek. :)

O.k. guys this is what happened, as i was making a beet apple milkshake one of the seeds from the apple rolled across the counter as i reached for it i remembered that apple seeds contain cyanide one of if not the most deadly poisons known to man.. then the thought struck me.. maybe that's how mankind arrived at that doctrine/theory.. what do you think.. :stupid :agreed

I have eaten an apple seed before and I am still alive :chin

Yes Edward/Kathi I've eaten apple seeds and plenty of them over the years some of those people that make milk shakes like the one i described said to throw the entire apple into the mix, i forgot i added a banana as well.. it was the idea that the apple is used throughout history as the forbidden fruit, the thought of cyanide being in those seeds started me thinking..

carp are not kosher

Why do you say that? They have fins and scales, don't they? That's the biblical requirement for water creatures being kosher.

The core of the apple is full of nutrients.
We should all be eating them.

Carp are nasty creatures. I'm not even Jewish and I can see why they're not Kosher, lol. They're fun to catch though, put up quite a fight. Not for eating though eww. Some people eat them. It'd have to be a survival situation for me though.
