The Book of Eli

Oh my ferging garsh!!

I just watched the end of the movie for the firs time! Wow!

I've watched pieces of this movie before, but not enough to get the whole story. The end of it, revealing the purpose of Eli, really is very cool! :thumbsup

Here's wishing it didn't have so many profanities that I can't have my 15 YO son watch it. :gah

Your son will have to wait for the TV edited version :lol

Go buy a DVD player that filters profanity out. My Dad did that over 5 years ago when I was in High School and he still has it for my brother and sister. It will briefly mute parts of the movie that have profanity, and you can turn on captions to display when that happens which will reveal the surrounding dialogue so you don't miss anything and it will print an acceptable alternative like "crap" for the s-bomb, etc. Such DVD players are reasonably priced, just look for the feature.

Now that is awesome. I had no idea such things existed. What would this DVD player be called?

Oh, and I did like the ending to this movie. The moment I saw it it evoked a recollection for me of the end of the movie adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 where people identified themselves by the books they had memorized rather than by their names (all books on earth has been destroyed - intentionally burned), and some people in that movie also that has memorized portions of Scripture, alongside other famous literary works. I think I'll need to watch the movie again to assess it any deeper though.

Sanyo manufactures them. They are called "TV Guardian" DVD players. The one we have is here: Amazon.com: Sanyo DWM450 TVGuardian DVD player: Electronics.

There is also a VHS/DVD player that has it here (probably won't work on VHSs is my guess - though I would be pleasantly impressed if it could): http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-DVW7100-TVGuardian-player-recorder/dp/B000RLFFDY. They look out of stock on amazon but you can probably order them elsewhere if you search on google.

Enjoy.

Thank you for passing this little gem on.

That DVD player is every Christian household's best friend :p

Anyone see it? Your thoughts on it? I thought it was a good movie!
It was nice that it made saving a Bible a major ,perhaps the major point of the plot. But the movie stunk. Like who taught the pretty young girl to drive? And why did she she have so much gas when the baddies had to turn back for lack of it? And the knife, it looked great but whats the deal are they hoping nobody has seen Crockodile Dundee? Camping out in the Nuke cooling tower ferpetesake?

I give this one a 9.2 on the contrived meter.

Really? Wow.
I thought the final credit should have read Watch for Eli Book II coming soon...

Well, we play our DVD's with the PS3 blu ray in our main living room. I don't want to add another unnecessary unit to our system, but that is cool to hear. I actually bought a filter that we use downstairs where we can't be watching everything the kids have on. It works pretty good!

Yes, I was commenting on the "preserving the Bible" theme of the movie. The reason I had only seen pieces of it before is that it never held my interest for too long. It was like one drawn out fight without much of a plot. I was in a hotel on business, and my options were limited, so I made it through the whole thing.

Here's a good one. It happens all the time, and it happens in this film too. Eli is surrounded by 6 guys who are going to kill him. They all go at him one guy at a time, so he can wield the mighty blade of his on them one by one. What I always love is that last guy who sees everyone else is dead, but feels he's the man for the job. No one ever seems to have the idea of going at the 1 guy at the same time.
