The Christian order of 'one-flesh'

With the population pushing 4 billion, I doubt marriage and procreation is as important as it was in Adam's day.

4? I thought we was pushing 7 billion.

Even though the earth was in a lean population condition a couple times (Adam & Noah) (probably few enough people to get ourselves on the endangered species list, lol), procreation is as important as ever I would think!

If you planted a garden, wouldn't you want as big of a harvest as possible? You wouldn't tend it and water it for a limited time just to get a little fruit and then stop watering it...!!
The more people there is, the more would be, believers...so more voices giving glory to God forevermore...

Oh we all have to do our part to make conditions such that he can implement His plan. :sohappy
It is God that gives the increase. As His humble servants, we merely plant seeds.

:poke :yes

I don't see more people as a problem, just less need. Though the population exploding too fast could cause problems eventually. (At least the way things are now. When God makes the new heaven and new earth, that won't be a problem.)
Myself, and I know we aren't talking about individuals, I'm not sure I'd be suited to motherhood. Not everyone is. But hey, if I never get married, and I may not, I won't have to worry about it.

Marriage is a command by God: Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife - and they shall become one flesh.

The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
Matthew 19:10-12 NIV

The actual command for those to whom the gift of celibacy has been given is "The one who can accept this should accept it."

If you do not have the gift of celibacy, and marry, that's okay too. As you quoted, those who do marry are then commanded to cleave together for the rest of their lives.

Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 1 Corinthians 7:8 NIV

Paul's words to the unmarried. He goes on to explain:

But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. 1 Corinthians 7:28b NIV

The celibate can devote full time to the Lord's service:

I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. 1 Corinthians 7:32-34a NIV

Nevertheless, this teaching is only for those who can accept it. For those who cannot:

...he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married. 1 Corinthians 7:36b NIV

Marriage is perfectly acceptable. So is celibacy. Everyone should follow their own gifts and callings.

That's what I was thinking. The last asexual I seen was riding a unicorn.
