  • Focus on the Family

    Strengthening families through biblical principles.

Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

I'm nondenominational. I'm kind of one of those Baptist/charismatic types that John MacArthur talks about. Still love a conservative Pentecostal church.

5 Bible studies a week! That is awesome. Everyone should be able to make at least one.

I am part of AoG church. Its a small one with some 40 to 50 members.. Probably in a week only 30 turn up though! we have Bible study once a week... Morning and evening services on Sunday.. The Pastor is very experienced and has been pastoring for more than 25 years.. A true servant of God and have learned a lot from him.. The glory goes to the Lord for using him..

There is lot of focus on supporting missionaries.. We all have the great commission! The church belief is more inclined towards Arminianism.. But my belief is Calvinistic on the subject of salvation.. The church believes in baptism of Holy Spirit.. But my Pastor personally believes that one does not have to speak in tongues to show that he has received Holy Spirit..

questdriven:

In the end, defining and refining our personal positions is all about the Scriptures and what they teach, rather than he said/she said, right? :)

Blessings.
In the end it's when we have adequate counsel from the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and what he/she says that we are able to define accurate and truthful personal positions on spiritual matters.

It seems that churches that leave one or more of these three things out get themselves into trouble.

I grew up Methodist and Presbyterian.

Got saved and went into the non-denom. charismatic movement. I don't speak in tongues, but my wife did.

I'm presently NON Denom, as in 'NO' denomination at this present time.

Calvary Chapel is a good forty-five minutes away.

I grew up on the more liberal end of the Presbyterian Church. Saved by Teen Challenge (Love those people!), now looking for a small, AoG Church. I just really like SBC and AoG...old school Christianity, no cheap grace, they try to stand firm against trends that run counter to Christ, both in the church and in society. I wish I'd grown up in a more traditional background...liberal Presbyterianism doesn't really seem to change lives the way old-school SBC and AoG teachings do.
