I had nothing to do with it!!!!! I was in the other Germany at that time.
(Also I was a mere toddler in the 80s).

I can't listen to it anymore. There are rare little pieces of goodness in modern secular music, but most of it -- not just rock, even pop (which honestly seems to have more of an agenda now than rock/metal ever did), is garbage and makes me uneasy. This live fast, die young mentality I see pains me spiritually. People think I'm a nutjob when I'm always tuned into a Pandora Gospel radio station, but it brings no offense to me, at least, and it magnifies the Lord and brings me to spiritual places. The Lady Gaga's, Nicki Minaj's, Lil Wayne's... it's too far gone.

Please don't think of me as being self-righteous. You should hear the stuff I used to enjoy! I'm not saying what anyone should or shouldn't listen to... just telling you my personal walk.

Standing up for your convictions is a good thing. :thumbsup

The late Keith Green was told his music was rock music and that was of the devil.
He replied, "everything belongs to God, so if the devil took it, it's up to us to take it back".

I dont even know what todays music is. I probably cannot name one new song from after the 90s. I know peoples names, and if i hear the song i might know it but wont know who sings it type of thing, thats about it. They all sound the same these days and the lyrics are rubbish. The 80s really finished the good music from the past.

I'm the same way.

Music today blows.

Probably the main artist I listen to that's on the secular scene and has never to my knowledge has never really been a part of the Christian scene (though he is a Christian), is Owl City. This is why.
This music isn't rock, though. I think it's synthetic pop. In any case, his music tends to be uplifting, encouraging, yet acknowledge the not-so-great parts of life and is relatable. (His songs have been featured in a few movies in recent years, too.) Plus his songs are all super poetic and have beautiful melodies.

Aside from that and many individual songs I came across and happened to like, the majority of music I have is from bands that appear on the Christian scene (some in addition to the secular scene). Most of them are a type of rock.

It's really too wide of a subject to be so condemning or supporting of all of it. Sure, some of it is from the devil, just like many things we deal with can have aspects or parts that are from the devil. And some of it is un-Biblical. If we're talking only secular rock, why would anyone ever expect all of it to be "Biblical"? That should go without saying. Christian rock of the devil? Yeah, that subject's been beaten to death on forums and in churches for years now, just like many of what today are considered our wonderful old hymns were accused of the same thing when they were new, and what some Christians like to think of as traditional and proper musical instruments, such as the organ or piano, were considered of the devil when they were first used in churches.
Talking to a friend one time, he told of a woman that came from Austria that was visiting him and he made know that he liked Straus waltzes. She was horrified and explained how the music, the parties, and sin was involved with that music. Not much of a rock beat, but it accomplished bringing out the purpose Satan purposed it for I reckon.

1 Cor 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

1 Corinthians 10
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

I used to love LOVE heavy metal (yep that's right!) But all I hear now is the glorification of death and sin in that music, which makes me a little sad because that was the music that got me through some rough times as a teen. However now I'm hooked on klove and any other Christian radio station. The music glorifies God, brings me peace and joy, and I just feel stronger after listening to it. The last time I turned my radio dial back to the pop station I heard a rap song that was mocking the Bible and I was like "DO NOT WANT!" So I'm done with secular music.

But there is a lot of good Christian rock, hard rock, metal, etc., so there is no need to stop listening to it if one doesn't want to. A Christian friend of mine who used to be an atheist says that Christian rap/hip-hop now surpasses the non-Christian stuff.

How about Christian metal, which I love. I listen to all types of music my tastes are vast.

Do you know of any bands? I would love to listen!

Theocracy, Disciple (kinda their own brand of metal and have gone a little softer in recent years--but very good lyrics!), Demon Hunter...
The only one I'm terribly familiar with is Disciple, and their lyrics tend to be based off scripture.

I tend to go more for hard rock and alternative metal myself, though Disciple is one of my favorites. Some Christian hard rock and/or alternative metal bands: Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, Red, Fireflight, etc. (Though pretty much all of these also experiment with softer songs--especially in recent years.)

Here's an example of Demon Hunter:
