The Lord said, these words are Spirit and they are life. There's definitely more to taking communion than meets the eye. It's a spiritual thing and something happens to the bread & wine in the spiritual realm that we dont get to see. It has to happen though and is very likely part of the sanctification process, as well as a reverant rememberance of what exactly He did for us.

I think it sounds weird to some because it sounds cannibalistic but we have to remember that everything on earth is a cheap imitation of something spiritual (on a fallen earth) so we just dont understand the entire ramifications of its purpose and full meaning...we just do it because He said to.

I stated ok to Jim then explained why I don't take John 6 literally to mean eating and drinking. To me the last supper was Jesus with His disciples having what we call communion. He drank of the fruit of the vine.

The actual literal Hebrew for wine is "blood of the grape" .

And I understand that you don't take it literally... because you ate matza and drank grape juice...you know you did. But you internalize the life and sacrifice of Jesus...

So do Jim and Ezra...but just in a slightly different manner with a bit different faith. I can't say that either side is right or wrong here...both sides of the theology are very dedicated to the Messiah (in case you couldn't tell)

Like group prayers...lesson out of the first word of The Lord's Prayer. We shouldn't do it alone all the time.

These guys are ones that believe Jesus is God and whatever He says (no matter what) is true. Even if it's what you perceive as a metaphor. But their dedication is the same as yours at a minimum... maybe more.

Hermeneutics is a blend of Art and Science... Theirs is just a tad different.

I find it oddly unique that something which was instituted to unite us, is actually something that has been used to divide us.

In Corinthians, within community we are told to examine ourselves and we are warned that anyone who takes it in the wrong manner are subject to judgment.

Paul also talks about eating meat offered to idols... it's a matter of concience.

In short, who are we to judge another who partakes in communion with a clean concience?

And Randy, John, Ezra and Jim also have that same spirit in them. United, we make up the Body of Christ. Each of us are as unique as the various churches of Christ in Paul's ministry, as well as those in Jerusalem.

One thing we can take away from John 6 is simply this. Jesus is going to say some things that befuddle us, and that's ok. We dont need to understand all of it right away and other things we will understand differently than others. What we need to know, is that Jesus holds eternal life, and what it comes down to in those times is we have nowhere else to go, except stand on his promise that he will never leave or forsake us.
