When I was in the early years of high school in the 60s, I discovered the author, James Baldwin. I was immediately fascinated by his writings. It was a time when I was becoming aware in a meaningful way of race relations and the civil rights struggles. It was also a transformative time for the country, and Baldwin wrote so genuinely and poignantly about the times.

I still have a fascination with his writing, and return every few years to reread The Fire Next Time and Another Country.

This is an interview Baldwin gave in 1963 - the year The Fire Next Time appeared - which gives a lot of information about the times, and about Baldwin himself.

no., he lived in florida.

I'm sure he did. He lived quite a few different places in his life. He grew up In New York (city) and wrote about that a lot. Since I grew up in New York (upstate) his New York connection hooked me.
