The flood.

Well heres another one, the great flood, Noah, shem ham japheth and the whole deal, we know it happened, from the frosty tops of the mountains to the so called "million year" fossils that were really just baried in the ground from water, and we know it covered all 24,000 miles of the whole earth,




So heres the topic question, why do some people doubt this, furthermore why do some people go as far as to even mock and riducule it and it's sacredity, such statements come to mind as scholars saying it only happened in the dead sea area or the ship is only as big as 3 galleys put end to end, what is the source of all this animosity? Do you feel this way, do you hate this story,?????




This is a scholarly debate, so all witts allowed as long as they line in with the forum guidelines, the flood, a myth, a fact, or a congester, just because its a fact doesn't mean we can't discuss it in a different sense.......

I really can't begin to understand why some people believe or do what they believe and do. :confused

I don't believe in a global flood literally because I accept the scientific consensus that the evidence is absent.

As for the details of the story, it's basic mythology/folklore from a literary standpoint, so it's even more difficult to take literally.

People mock it because it is so hard to imagine how it could have happened. If an omnipotent god intervened, then anything is possible, but most apologists want to avoid that and provide at least a quasi-scientific feasibility.
 
I don't really have a strong opinion either way. It could have happened sure. If it didn't does it change the meaning of the story? What blows my mind is the people that insist it is 100% true and happened with little to no 'evidence'. The bible guides our 'spiritual' life not our 'physical' one and it definitely isn't a science book.

No, it was not a literal event but a story, only. To the OP, when did this event supposed take place, in your opinion?

If there is plenty of evidence, why do you think that the scientists around the world (from different backgrounds, a lot of them Christian) have not found this evidence? I suppose it's possible that thousands of experts are blinded by some preconception, but I find it very unlikely.

I want to also mention that it's unfalsifiable to say that others are blinded and I could just as easily say that about anyone whom I disagree with.
 
That's the thing about "inner sight", which is highly based upon a person's own opinion. You may see a person as "blind to it", when in actuality, you are the one who is blind to the evidence given. As Hugo states, if the scientific community [of which there are many very intelligent persons therein] reject any notion of a global wide flood, . . . then it is fair to summize that such an event did not take place.

I've seen plenty of scientists providing evidence of the flood. What? You never watch the History Channel? :confused
 
The History Channel [that I've seen] only proposed a flood of a small area [of which a large lake now resides], due to a land bridge collaps at the end of the ice age, . . . or something along those lines.

I've seen others...there is a lot of disagreement among scientists. Some even claim man evolved from some pond or some such. :screwloose
 
poster number 12 your right, seems that some people just can't see it even though its right under there nose, the earth is 70 percent water , that alone is proof of the flood. Well the older history shows were better, they presented opposing opinions rather than agendas, and they were more resonable, there are a lot of proof that the flood happened, the sad thing is even if they saw a picture of the ark on top of the water, some people still wouldn'y believe, (lol) thats how stiptit they are.

This happened before we had cable tv or even newspapers.
People weren't keeping records back then...fortunately, we have the Word of God.

I'm betting if you took the time to add up all the begats you'd get pretty darn close.

You see....I happen to believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, so I don't care about figuring out the dates hoping to prove it's wrong. I have a simple faith....I believe there was a flood because the Bible tells me so.
 
I am a firm believer in a global flood.

1. If it was a local flood God could have just told Noah to move.

2. A global flood left evidence of Gods judgment a miracle would not.

3. Over 250 Flood legends from all parts of the world have been found. Most have similarities to the Genesis story.

4. Noah’s ark was built only to float, not to sail anywhere. Many ark scholars believe that the ark was a "barge" shape, not a pointed "boat" shape. This would greatly increase the cargo capacity. Scoffers have pointed out that the largest sailing ships were less than 300 feet because of the problem of twisting and flexing the boat. These ships had giant masts, and sails to catch the wind. Noah's ark needed neither of those and therefore had far less torsion related stress.

5. Even using the small 18-inch cubit (my height is 6-ft. 1-in. and I have a 21-in. cubit) the ark was large enough to hold all the required animals, people, and food with room to spare.

6. The length-to-width ratio of 6 to 1 is what shipbuilders today often use. This is the best ratio for stability in stormy weather. (God thinks of everything!)

7. Noah lived 950 years! Many Bible scholars believe the pre-Flood people were much larger than modern man. Skeletons over 11 feet tall have been found! If Noah were taller, his cubit (elbow to fingertip) would have been much larger also. This would make the ark larger by the same ratio.

8. God told Noah to bring two of each kind (seven of some), not of each species or variety. Noah had only two of the dog kind, which would include the wolves, coyotes, foxes, mutts, etc. The "kind" grouping is probably closer to our modern family division in taxonomy, and would greatly reduce the number of animals on the ark. Animals have diversified into many varieties in the last 4400 years since the Flood. This diversification is not anything similar to great claims that the evolutionists teach.

9. The top 3,000 feet of Mt. Everest (from 26,000-29,000 feet) is made up of sedimentary rock packed with seashells and other ocean-dwelling animals.

10. Bent rock layers, fossil graveyards, and poly-strata fossils are best explained by a Flood.

And many MANY more.
 
I believe that according to the Bible the flood was about 4400+\- years ago.

Interestingly enough at that time there was a recorded human population bottle neck. :chin
