One measure of the environment I grew up in involves firearms. I grew up with hunting rifles and plinking rifles (.22s) in abundance. That was the neutral aspect of guns. On the negative side, I've had loaded guns pointed at me on at least 9 occasions. 3 times by family, 2 times by friends, 1 time by a coworker, 1 time at a gun range, 1 by a cop, 1 by a robber. All of them were pistols except one was a hunting rifle and one was a shotgun. There were probably more times I was on the wrong side of a gun, but those are the times I remember off hand.
I've been on the wrong side of a knife once by a coworker.
I've been on the wrong side of nun chucks once by an acquaintance.
In my experience, pistols are the most dangerous firearm as muzzle discipline is very easily violated.
I praise God I survived all my encounters. He had His hand on me each time.
BTW, I never knowingly or intentionally pointed a gun of any type at anyone. I have pointed a gun into the darkness twice to thwart what I perceived to be crimes being committed. And I've been armed a few times in situations I suspected a crime/s were imminent against my person/property. Again the Lord de-escalated the situation/s quickly. I currently own absolutely no firearms. I am utterly at God's grace/mercy for my protection. Our son does have one firearm, but it is usually locked up. I have no access.
