The King James Bible

Who on this board still uses the King James Bible ? And if so why ?
and does anybody on this board use the Amplified Bible ?
I use them both. But it seems like hardly anyone uses the King James Bible anymore. But to me besides some translation errors' it is tops.

I use it. I use it mostly when I'm digging into the meaning of words with a concordance. King James seems to have the most exhaustive concordance.

I have to admit that I don't understand the King James very well, but I'm getting better at it. My vocabulary is growing. When I'm reading the Bible rather than digging into particular words I use the NIV or the New King James.

I still use the King James, and that is the only version I have uploaded on my web site free for downloading (including the Apocrypha) in HTML form.

As to why I use the King James, to make a long story short, although the King James is not perfect, I think it is one of the few translations that do not have a theological position axe to grind. Also, the text was (supposedly) translated from the original Hebrew/Greek which contains the codes and Gemetria. Corrupted text loses this mathematical ability when man tries to paraphrase or clarify what God was saying.

I use the KJV still.
I also use just about every other version I can get my hands on.
I only 'trust' certain texts, but since I dont read Greek and Hebrew I like to use a few different bibles to get a broader feel for what might be being said.

Regardless of the claims of each translation, none of them are perfect in any way. There are many words and phrases that have no perfect counterpart in english and therefore cannot be rendered perfectly into our language to begin with.

I was doing a study two days ago on MDR where the same point came up in the greek in Matthew. The word I was looking at doesnt even actually have an accurate english rendering, so they do the best they can to try to convey the meaning.

Having said all that, I think its very wise to use a good parallel bible these days. No one went to hell for not having anything other than a KJV, but why on earth would we want to limit ourselves these days when God has given us so many wonderful resources with which to understand His whole word?

eh.... by using 'church' instead of 'calling out' or assembly or some other term for 'ekklesia' when they should have, I have to wonder sometimes if there wasnt something going on, even if the translators themselves werent involved.
Even today the masses equate the word 'church' with the clergy, with the buildings, the "establishment", etc... instead of simply taking it as being our Lords 'calling out'....
Id like to see the KJV reprinted with that being changed some day

I have a King James Bible, but I don't read it much. Mainly because I read the Bible in Spanish. I have the Spanish version of the New International Version (Nueva Versión Internacional), and the Reina Valera de 1960, which is kind of like the standard Bible in Spanish.

If the KJV is difficult to read for most native English speakers, imagine how hard it's for me to read it. :

*waves hand* I do! About 75% of all Scripture I post here is KJV.

Why do I use it? It's because it comes from a "family" of Bibles translated from the non-corrupt Textus Receptus. This is what I believe and I'm not really up to turning this into a debate.

I personally do not understand the point of using terms like 'thee' and 'thou' and putting an 'eth' on the back of verbs. It is distracting and, frankly, silly - from my point of view, of course.

yup Vic' I don't want this to turn into a debate. But I still use it for the same reasons. But comment on the thee' and 'thou. You get use to it, just like the words Sundry Times' Divers Temptations. When you learn what those words mean' it is nothing to it. I learned by using the Strongs Concordance and word of mouth. now reading the KJV is natural to me. And I also love the Amplified. But I base all translations on the KJV. I have had many translations' but I gave most of them away. I still have a NIV. I am going to buy many again to broaden my concept of the Word. But many versions are just plain stomp down corrupt. I have found many errors in other translations. And remember this is not a debate here. but I think I am going to get a Message Bible' and go through it.

I agree. I think it's easy to get used to the KJV. It's easier than understanding another language or trying to understand people with thick English accents as in my work situation. Most of us adjust to that, therefore we can adjust to KJV.

That's one thing I like about the KJV. The language has a plural second person, sort of like Spanish. In today's language, we can be addressing the second person singular and the word used is "you". We can address the plural, a crowd, and it's still "you", whereas the old English at least had "ye". I think the southerners have it right to say y'all.
