That's one thing I like about the KJV. The language has a plural second person, sort of like Spanish. In today's language, we can be addressing the second person singular and the word used is "you". We can address the plural, a crowd, and it's still "you", whereas the old English at least had "ye". I think the southerners have it right to say y'all.

I realize that this isn't an English forum. however - when referring to a group - doesn't one usually say "you all"?

Well, not exactly. Here in western Pennsylvania we say "Youns" pronounced [yunz] or You'uns.

In eastern Pa we usually say (pronounced) "yooz". I guess that's a Dutchified thing.

I do NOT use the King James Bible. I have tried many times, but the archaisms and the syntax are really awful. It's the perfect Bible for those who speak that way, today. Accurate---yes. Understandable-no. And I think the NKJV does a better job of translating the TR.

I now mainly use the NLT2. I also use NAS, ESV, HCSB, NKJ

I used to use the NIV when I was first saved. That was in Salt Lake City.
I found the NIV was not acceptable to Mormons so witnessing to them with anything but the KJV was next to useless. Therefore I was forced to use it.

What I found was that out of pure necessity I learned how to read and study in the language used in the King James. In short, I got comfortable with it because I used it. I had no option but to do so. Today it's not even an issue, I read it with as much understanding as reading any other modern english text. And to tell the truth once I got used to it I found it to be my preference.

Ok, In all seriousness....
First, the KJV is all folks had for hundreds of years and really is like anything else...You just need to get used to it...a simple truth is that the Holy Spirit will indeed give you understanding....Over the years I would say that I do use the KJV for bible study...I usually post using the NKJV because I do realize it is easier reading for most....including myself.....

Now as far as the NIV goes, I have one in my truck....I enjoy reading it, but I read it and treat it as a very good commentary....I consider it a paraphrase, and since it is a ''word for thought'' it is exactly that..A commentary....

So for bible study, I will sit down with my Thompson chain reference KJV, My NKJV and my 1550 TR Greek NT....
