The KJV bible is the only bible that is worth reading.

I still don't like the KJV My opinion, I don't speak Ye Olde English and I don't want to read it.

It's a matter of personal preference. Some love the amplified version. I just can't handle the volume. I prefer the KJV even with it's flaws and errors. :yes

I like the ASV, but still read the KJV too and the Afrikaans Bible, which is a mix between ASV and KJV I suppose. It also has errors in it, but if one is aware of them, you can sidestep them. I love the Numeric New Testament too, because it is so close to the original language.

I just stick to NWT, It has a good understanding of how Bible scripture was, and been restored to it's originality with Jehovah God's name given back to it's original texts.

Uh NO That is the horribly flawed JW translation I and others here have already warned against. If you like you bibles flaws and changed by a non-christian man made religion then by all means enjoy the New World Translation.

Thank you for your posts, you have to remember that the bible is put together specificly. And by the KJV version I'm talking about the 1611 version, and for those who say the older ones are more accurate it is the exact same thing, the KJV came from older documents.

You are aware that the 1611 KJV has the Apocrypha in it don't you? Most KJV-only advocates seem to neglect that fact, or say the Apocrypha's inclusion was a mistake. Others just say, "The Apocra-WHAT???"

There's an epidemic of people becoming NIV positive! :o ;)
LOL. We once had a Deacon in church (his name was Wes) who calls the NIV the Nearly Inspired Version.

This thread has been moved to the Apologetics Forum.

I love the KJV.

You might say I broke my Christian baby teeth on it. I was saved at 8 years old in a pagan home, and no church fellowship or bible. The KJV was my very first bible which I recieved when I was 16. Now, I am pleased that I did, I became an excellent Shakepearian reader from being used to the old English wording, and it never throws me when it is used. :lol

Although, I would never say that it is MORE inspired than other versions are. I like its hard hitting words, but there are tiny errors in every text. Though of course there are none in the word of God, which He is able to impart to us, no matter what version we read... :shades

Isn't it about the heart, the desire to know the Lord, not the outward appearance, not the especially exacting words or the age of the text? :chin If we NEED the original manuscript to interpret the word of God correctly, its gone dudes. So maybe we can just be praying bereans instead?

God knows best.

Why did this get moved? Just wonderin'.

BTW What's wrong with the NIV? I like the NIV.

A topic like KJV vs. ? isn't a Bible Study, it's a topic that winds up defending one Bible over another. So then it's apologetic more than anything else. :)

AH, makes sence especially since we have a JW here now (mosesjoel) who's trying to convert us all.

I agree.

I would like to know WHY the KJV is the "only bible worth reading". There are a number of other versions that are quite edifying and useful, whether for devotion or serious study. Someone once listed "reasons", but I thought they were quite silly and contrived. it seems to me more an opinion than a statement based on any sort of fact or measured reasoning.

Btw, I like Catholics, too, Vic...

:lol

Anyone who has done some research knows that the KJV is actually a lesser translation of the bible than the NIV (and may other newer translations).

The KJV was translated from Latin after a period of the translation becoming corrupted over 1000+years.

The NIV uses a more direct EARLIER source for its translation.

Anyone who gets aloof over the KJV is deluded.

Actually Joe, and Jestor... I've spent a good portion of the lat 9 or 10 years doing the research on Bible translations and I still favor the KJV and it's TR origins. I find those heavily in favor of one or the other, tend to distort some facts and historical findings. It seems some pick on the KJV but dismiss or ignore other translations that have their roots in the TR or Vulgate.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the only version worth reading, but it has been consistent, even in it's various forms, over the last few hundred years. God's word needn't be "rewritten" in order to gain copyrights and the $$$ that eventually go with said copyrights.

Personally, I ponder over why the MMSs found at St. Catherine's rubbish pile wound up there in the first place. :confused If I find old milk or other food in the dumpster of the local supermarket, I do not take it home and use it to nourish my body. It may make me sick instead. :verysick

Here is a page I think you will like Vic, that defends the antiquity of some of the classical readings in the TR (paying particular attention to the important witness of early Church Fathers): EARLY WITNESSES TO THE RECEIVED TEXT.

See also this table comparing the Early witness of the manuscript P66 to the Sinaticus:

Hey 'm the one that likes Catholics. :D In fact I have a Catholic Bible that I really enjoy, I like that it has the book of Enoch and others that the "protestant Bible" does not.
