The season has begun. Seattle knocked off Oakland Friday in the season opener.

It's celebration time....THE season of the sports year has commenced!
What do you think of the Wild Card change for this year? (TWO WCs will play off at the end of regular season.)
Sorry to hear you might prefer a shorter season.
I would prefer baseball season to last 11 months....give 'em a month off to rest up for the next season. (All right, maybe 2 months.) But then, the remote control would be happy if there was a baseball channel, showing nothing but major league games.
I guess I have to wait for Heaven to have my dreams come true to see MLB all the time.
Have fun this season, elijah...the Cards look to have a strong line-up once more, even though Albert isn't with them.
My thoughts on winter ballgames.... the teams could have December & maybe January free from play. Otherwise, they could play in Florida and other parts of the country where the weather is mild most of the year. Kinda like spring training, only official.
The Cards should do fairly well without Albert. They were able to keep up the wins each time Albert was out due to injury. It's going to take a wee bit of time to adjust to his absence. I do wish him luck with his new team...a solid 10-year contract with wages totaling between 25 - 26 million. (Nice work if you can get it!)
Golf can be a relaxing game. I have, however, seen some golfers get irate & throw irons into ponds....one gent threw golf bag & all into a water way and stomped away ... must have had a bad day of it. I would imagine he was glad his scene wasn't televised.
The Tigers usually start out fine....but I'm with you, I think the Cards will run with it.
What other teams/players do you follow?
Mike, exhibition baseball IS baseball. The subsequent "regular" season, playoffs, and World Series are just for show.Did someone mention my Tigers? We have a dangerous offense and a Cy Young/MVP at the bump. We also have a prince; a real live Prince!
Oh, and who started their season without telling me? : What the... oh, look what you did there. You know, pre-season doesn't count toward the standings.
Can I start talking about my loathing of the Yankees with the intensity of a thousand white-hot suns? I'd like to do that. I loath the Yankees with the intensity of a thousand white-hot suns. :yes I'm smiling and nodding, but I do!
In all seriositiness, I'm with Elijah. Snow and baseball don't mix well. My Superbowl contending Lions do well in it. Oh, yeah... the Lions are preparing for the draft... I won't do that to you again, E.
True this, though. A warm day cruise with the windows down and baseball on the radididio, or better yet, a warm summer afternoon with the comforting intonations of Tigers play-by-play on the radio on my back porch. I need to hire a poet to help me do it justice.
From spring training to the World Series...it's all baseball, in my opinion. Even when the teams go into their seasonal slumps, when they seem to not be able to get their act together, I'm still cheering them on.
And I definitely cheer on any team that manages to beat the yankees. There are times when that is done with mixed emotions, as occasionally, a player I follow will don the uniform of a Yankee. "...intensity of a thousand white-hot suns...." is a most apt description (and very poet, if I may add) for the dislike I share with you, Mike, for the yankees.
By the way, has any word been had as yet concerning Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez? He's still 'listed' as a National....but he's not on the roster. He went free agent this Autumn past, but I haven't found anything where he is or isn't definitely with the Nationals (or any other team, for that matter).
I haven't heard about Pudge. I miss his arm to second base, but we have a worthy replacement!
Elijah, you are a season ticket holder's dream - some sad sack that wants to buy all their preseason games off them, so they won't have to waist all that money. I'll make that deal with you if you come up here and go rogue in some Lions swag!
Oh no! Hide this post from Vic!
Uhmmmm....I take it Vic is a Yankees fan?
(You know, I've heard rumours there are such critters in existence... I've just never met one before)
;)
