The matrix

I think you are right. We should be careful what we watch. Sometimes we might take for granted that something is not that bad when it really has an underlying message.
For me there is no God but the one true God. So when I watch the Matrix I'm not concerned that the messiah in that movie is a false god. Like the meat sacrificed to an idol, that idol has no power over the one who has faith that it does not have that power and is nothing. But if there is someone who may struggle with that, they need to stay away from it.

Ground Hog Day is another secular movie that makes me think about the truths of God. But if it leads another person who watches it away from God they need to not watch it.

I think, perhaps, you guys are talking about something entirely different than I am, when it comes to Disney.
Yes, I am aware of all the sexual things and occult signs drawn into the background of the Disney films. (There are literally hundreds of these things) But the much more disturbing suggestions they make are the constant references to us being our own god, and the singular ability we have to control life and destiny through our own desires and thoughts.

Disney works hard to replace God with man.

I'm the same. Since the kind of stuff I enjoy watching comes from another culture with very little Christian influence, it's common to see references to "gods", other religions (particularly Bhuddism), or concepts that may contradict Christianity (but which are legitimate subjects to explore in fiction).
It's fiction, and I know it's not real and has no power over me.

The Bible said a mouthful with this one.... "Faith comes through hearing (seeing also), and hearing.......... whatever you listen to."

None of the versions I looked up of that verse say "whatever you listen to". Rather, the verse seems to be about listening to God and reading the Bible to increase faith.

That's why I wrote it that way..... so you would do what you did.

You went and found out for yourself that we are told what we are to be "hearing".................. NOT that we can listen to anything we feel is fine, and claim that it will have no effect.

I feel no condemnation in what I have chosen to enjoy. But I am honest about the content so that others can decide for themselves. And honestly it's not as bad as it sounds, anyway. Nothing is shoved in your face--I just know my beliefs well enough to identify things that don't fit my worldview.

The medium of fiction is to explore possibilities--I find it fascinating. And I have no problem with the mention of false gods anymore than I have a problem reading Greek mythology.

Why should you feel condemnation? No one "condemned" you about anything. I just helped you go see that the Bible says we will develop faith (or, "trust and belief" ) in whatever we spend our time putting into our minds.

I'm used to the KJV, which uses that word in this verse:
Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.~Romans 14:22

It's not my belief that the verse you supplied says that. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

OK, I'm willing to play games, if that is your mood right now....

Let's look at your verse of choice....... What does the last part say you are possibly doing to yourself by what you are allowing yourself to indulge in?

Chiming in on Disney being corrupt... I'm so glad other Christians are on board with that. It has only gotten worse with time. Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network are to blame for the oversexualization of these newer generations. The music and media industries are of Satan, and the lack of awareness and discernment concerning this is alarming. Its making its way into the sports and fashion world as well.

I gave the verse only as an explanation of why I used the word "condemn" in the context I used it. I didn't mean to sign up for an argument.

Not trying to argue, at all. I just hope to get people to see that despite what we wish was true..... constant exposure to ANYTHING will eventually lead us into thinking THAT way.

That's why God tells us... "Read about ME."

I put a lot of thought, and yes prayer, into this stuff when I first got into anime--I came to a different conclusion. But not everyone will come to the same conclusion I did--and that's fine. I'd rather not be put into a position to defend myself.

To me, fiction doesn't have to reflect my views. I grew up reading Greek mythology--I find mythology fascinating. I don't believe in the Greek gods.
Star Wars, which has pantheistic themes, was a favorite franchise of mine years before I got into anime--I found a way to interpret it as an allegory and that actually pulled me closer to God.

Really? Over sexualization of the "newer generations"? Were you alive in the 60s? This is nothing new, and if not Disney, the blame would just be put on someone else. The new thing is that what we (as the American society) lack these days is a sense of personal responsibility.

Right on that.

Have you seen the latest Progressive Insurance ad on "Bundling? And they ran one awhile back playing up Flo as a drug dealer hiding in the shadows.

It's all sneaky, and we often don't see it at all.

No I wasn't alive in the 60s. I do believe though that things have gotten worse, based upon conversations with my elders about the topic. 5th graders knowledge of unclean things today would make your head spin. Young ones are desensitized to these sorts of things, and I agree that there's a lack of personal responsibility -- parents let the TV raise the kids nowadays.
