The matrix

No I wasn't alive in the 60s. I do believe though that things have gotten worse, based upon conversations with my elders about the topic. 5th graders knowledge of unclean things today would make your head spin. Young ones are desensitized to these sorts of things, and I agree that there's a lack of personal responsibility -- parents let the TV raise the kids nowadays.
You revealed the very basic secret of letting Satan slip things into our minds in that one single phrase.

I guess I really do think differently than a lot of the people here. Well, Christians...we are a diverse group.
Full disclaimer that I'm no one's morality police and what people decide to do is between themselves and God, I'm only sharing my views, observations and personal convictions. I love you all as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Really? Over sexualization of the "newer generations"? Were you alive in the 60s? This is nothing new, and if not Disney, the blame would just be put on someone else. The new thing is that what we (as the American society) lack these days is a sense of personal responsibility.

This would've been rated X in the 60s. And it's just a TV commercial.

Of course. I hope that post of mine didn't come off the wrong way, it was also an observation.

Ya know, we smile at much of that stuff, but we really should be having a very different reaction. Kind of sad that we don't.

I get put down, even at my own church for pointing this out.

Most of the people in my congregation under 40 (and a lot who are older) have picked up commonly using the expression "friggin" in their speech. (Pardon me, Mods, but I know no other way to show this) And we all know that this, like many other "Christian Cuss Words", are just substitutes for the actual words.

We have let ourselves get so used to the world around us that we emulate it, without even thinking.

My point being that it's not what we see or hear or choose for entertainment. What's important is how we let it affect us. Yes indeed the "sexual revolution" of the 60s was just as extreme as what is going on today. It's just happening in different ways today, that's all. There is always something to blame our sins on if we want to look for it. What we need to do is make the decision that we worship and follow God, and because of that, these other things don't affect us if we decide not to let them, or if we can't handle that, we can decide not to take part in them. It's just like the question in the Bible about eating meat sacrificed to idols. We can watch a movie like The Matrix as simply science fiction without it becoming our source of spiritual guidance. We can see a TV commercial like the one above without committing sin. It's our choice and our responsibility. If I sin, it's not the fault of a movie or of Disney, or anime, or anything else. It's my fault and my fault alone for choosing to sin.

Disney is a whole other animal.
The Matrix does not try to portray good or bad. There is no attempt to mislead. As a believer, I know what I am going into before I watch it.

Disney on the other hand, whom many believers let their kids watch with no thought, thinking it can't be bad, need a recheck.

One of many examples is the Rescuers down under.
The film was released in 1977 and 1999 Disney gets around to announcing a recall.

So kids for all those years got that subliminal picture of a women with no top on.

The Matrix was OK, I knew what I was getting into. Something that says I am white, but it's really black, I have issues with that.

one of my favorite movies is Final Destination. The Director did a great job of how the World deals with the supernatural and the fear they have. I don't suggest believers watch it, it's a horror movie.

In the movie people that were suppose to die, live and a spirit of death goes to hunt them down in gruesome ways to make up for it's mistake. The people consult witches, mediums and try to get all sorts of help but Jesus.

Watch what you allow in!!!! Guard your hearts, because even things that have no nudity (Unlike Disney cartoons) Things can be put in to hinder your faith, and get you thinking on the wrong things.
Brother Mike how are you different then Disney you posting that here knowingly, at that... ? If it was wrong of them it was wrong of you.

Well, considering the typical reaction here of, " SHOW ME the chapter and verse", I doubt his simply trying to describe the cartoon would have done much good in demonstrating what he meant.

I think the difference is that quoting the Bible is not against the rules. Posting a picture with nudity, even just as an example, is against the rules.

Yup. It becomes who we are whether we know it or not.

Now not all emulation is bad, as can be seen in questdriven's art. But the truth is, the influence was there.

Actually, if that picture had just been posted in another thread as a funny little cartoon, 99% of us here would have likely never even seen the tiny little painting depicted in the background. Those cartoons are designed for inquisitive little eyes that soak up every detail.

Probably. But if I posted a picture and noticed something like that in it, I'd take it down immediately out of respect for the rules of this site.

I agree.

When I post stuff from the web I always try to go over it a couple of times just make sure something undesirable doesn't get by.

Yes, we do think differently. I think parents and grandparents (which most of us here, are) waking up, and grasping an understanding of some of this subversive wool being pulled over our eyes is far more important than acting Pharisaical about some rules.

And I am not talking about some hypothetical accidental posting...... I am talking about THIS thread, and the purpose for which the cartoon was shown.

I see your point, but we still have to look out for young ones and those who are weak in this area.

To be honest with you, if I still had young ones at home, I would never let them browse ANY "Christian" forum on their own. I see more meanness and disrespect on Christian forums than I do at some of the rough and tumble secular forums I frequent.

umpires and moderators are always at least half wrong... :)
You catch most of it, but if it stands for an hour, or so, before you see it, it would likely be read by kids..... IF we were to let them just wander around on their own.
