The Night My Laptop ?

Whatever, Bill, I really had no issues with 8, though I have upgraded to 10 on both of my computers, and actually do like it better than 8.
And having tested both, when 10 came out I waited for the release because the beta version was horrible, made less than 8 hours on my test bed. As soon as 10 was released on July 29 I tried it again but it was an incomplete system, still. and I testing 10, again, but for the last time. The windoze team has once again released a version that after a full year is not up to snuff.

I know I will never convince a single windose addict to ever try one of the Debian/Ubuntu versions, but there is nothing I will ever do to erase the lies about Linux Operating Systems because they have spent billions on pushing the lies.

I would but as I know an Linux user.the army online data base is extremely difficult to use.we have required online training to do.

It is the perfect time for testing then. You can load the Virtual Box, the windows version, and then to keep the effect on your unit download a 32-bit version and install the image you download from your downloads folder, no need to even write a disk.

That way you will know ahead of any commitment if it will allow you to do your training under it. I have not tested it and I will not break into any military site but with the compatibility of Linux and windows being what it is I doubt you would have an issue using any of the Linux Systems. Doing the install from a folder will be a learning curve but I will help you if you want it.

This is the first steps:
VirtualBox comes in many different packages, and installation depends on your host operating system. If you have installed software before, installation should be straightforward: on each host platform, VirtualBox uses the installation method that is most common and easy to use. If you run into trouble or have special requirements, please refer to Chapter 2, Installation details for details about the various installation methods.

Starting with version 4.0, VirtualBox is split into several components.

  1. The base package consists of all open-source components and is licensed under the GNU General Public License V2.

  2. Additional extension packs can be downloaded which extend the functionality of the VirtualBox base package. Currently, Oracle provides the one extension pack, which can be found athttp://www.virtualbox.org and provides the following added functionality:
    1. The virtual USB 2.0 (EHCI) device; see Section 3.10.1, “USB settings”.

    2. The virtual USB 3.0 (xHCI) device; see Section 3.10.1, “USB settings”.

    3. VirtualBox Remote Desktop Protocol (VRDP) support; see Section 7.1, “Remote display (VRDP support)”.

    4. Host webcam passthrough; see chapter Section 9.7.1, “Using a host webcam in the guest”.

    5. Intel PXE boot ROM.

    6. Experimental support for PCI passthrough on Linux hosts; see Section 9.6, “PCI passthrough”.

    7. Disk image encryption with AES algorithm; see Section 9.31, “Encryption of disk images”.
VirtualBox extension packages have a .vbox-extpack file name extension. To install an extension, simply double-click on the package file and a Network Operations Manager window will appear, guiding you through the required steps.

To view the extension packs that are currently installed, please start the VirtualBox Manager (see the next section). From the "File" menu, please select "Preferences". In the window that shows up, go to the "Extensions" category which shows you the extensions which are currently installed and allows you to remove a package or add a new one.

The army system isn't going to work with it.it barely works with external computers on windows. The person I know is a tech guru and Web designer. It's meant to be that annoying

"I have windows 8 so there."

How art the mighty fallen! uhm, I mean, "improved." Reba, I hope that you installed the free Classic Shell Start Button. If you did, you definitely have an operating system that is better than Windows 7 (which is also a good operating system).

Taylor, I appreciate your suggestion that I use a virtual drive. But My three partition rig is working well.

Alright, if you're not willing to test, you're not willing.

Um, I'm not really sure what you are talking about in the way of lies being told about Linux. I am sure it is a pretty solid OS, my only problem is I just don't know enough about it to want to install on any of my machines, much less do a dual boot. I have a number of programs I use on both machines and from what I understand some of them just are not compatible with Linux. I prefer to stick with an OS I know rather than learn a whole new one.

I took it to a shop to get rid of the apps and other junk... the so called 'charms' still show up if i get the cursor to far to the right...
The worst problem for me is things do not go to where i think they did.. .. I can not find many photos ... the XP photo stuff was fun to play with... I just stopped trying with W8 .. i dont need to get that frustrated..

I understand and the lack of compatibility is one of the lies. If you want to test the system, as I stated, there is no need for a fourth partition and, actually, I do bot recommend that to somebody like yourself.

Like I said before, I recommend downloading VBox and create an 8 gig virtual Drive that is easily removed and to install and to test the OS there. I have no idea what you have purchased but it is reasonable to think it is one of the newer, sold with 64-bit, and with less than ten gigs of ram you should never try to dedicate more than two gigs to your virtual machine leaving me recommending a 32-bit Ubuntu download and install on the VBox.

The theoretical, issue of compatibility issue is not an issue because there is Wine and for what the free Wine does not, yet, cover, the $60 Crossover does and $60 is considerably less than the cost of Windows.

If you have one of your old machines that will turn on but windows is broke, you have a perfect test bed, right there. Because Linux, Unix, and BSD do not have a registry they make old, slow or dead (but still try to run) machines run like stepping on a banana peel.

And like I said, I like assisting people for nothing. Not only that, there is twenty-four-hour support available through the Forums on the web that is free.

You're not alone, quite a few of my associates and friends are our age and I am the queer spoke in the wheel and I set them up with the XP Black for that reason and that way they operate and know where and when their system does things.

The man ,did do exactly what you said he had issues. That's how he logged in and tried to watch the videos.it worked half the time or less.it's the army server nit your idea.

I will ask again.when I have the money to dx my laptop and its getting close I will.

OK guys... microsoft down loaded 10 to Johns computer.... teaching him new tricks is not going to happen... Their download crashed... attempted to put 7 back on ... did not load the drivers... I want his computer up and running , him having a computer it a good part of my free time... Now they will not reload anything..
I have 2 disks from buying my laptop... they are 7 pro .. one is OS the other drivers ... is there any reason i can not should not use those to re-load Johns computer....
Not the time to tell me to load some other OS .. he does NOT want change..

Just start over by loading 7 first and then boot it with the drivers in the drive and it should go.

so i sit at a computer that will not even get on the net and ask it to load 7... ?

how does that happen?
