The Parable of Parables

smaller

Member
God in Christ presaged or foretold of Jesus' speakings in parables:

Matthew 13:35
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

This matter was prophesied by David, the prophet, in Psalm 78:

1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Jesus, yes The Living Word gave The Law, and gave it in parable fashion. A parable, SINGULAR. Many will stumble, hopefully in a good way, in this, His conveyance and understanding of Law and of Parable:

Luke 8:11
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

And Jesus brought His disciples attention to this parable, which same is repeated in the Gospels many times, the understanding of all parables:

Mark 4:
13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

Jesus then delivers the facts of parables, right here, giving the basic components that 'must' be present in the understanding of all parables:

15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Parable components? Quite simple:

-Gods Word (Living and Active)
-Satan (the thief, tempter, resistor in the hearts of mankind)
-Mankind

So then, the natural reaction of every reader of that fact above is to reject the fact that what is said happens to them.

And as such, in rejection, they will have no understanding of parables as they have already been stolen from.

But, to those to whom it is given, we can go back to how Jesus spoke this parable to the non-understanding masses to whom Jesus spoke this same parable this way, in Mark 4:

4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Who then are the fowls of the air?

Uh huh. Satan.

Paul uses this identical principle in the New Testament when observing the state of a believer prior to belief:

Ephesians 2:2
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Paul did not 'isolate' this matter from himself post salvation. He actually shows and demonstrates that it did in fact also happen to him and did so in an exact replica of what Jesus taught:

2 Cor. 12:
6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

And from this basis, one of the greatest statements of God to any man:

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:

An accurate view of Paul? Paul and the messenger of Satan in his flesh, JUST AS JESUS STATED happens happened to Paul.

Paul, in his 'enlightenment' from Jesus was 'turned' from that exact power of Satan, to see this reality:

Acts 26:18
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Yet Paul still carried that enemy in his own flesh. He as a New Man, a New Creation saw himself accurately and in that became DOMINANT over that power that prior controlled him. Yet he also spoke honestly about the fact of that evil still being present with him POST SALVATION.

Parables are not funny little stories. They point us to a certain fact that FEW will be allowed to see or to speak of 'personally.' And in such, the meanings of all parables, of Law, of resistance, everything in their own understandings WILL be darkened.

For those who are led to see, they will see this living reality:

2 Samuel 22:29
For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.

Isaiah 42:16
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

God 'hears' the cry of the afflicted, and resists the PROUD.

This should do for starters.

enjoy!

wondering suggested a thread in Theology about parables.

Well it is a bit old and full of all sorts of colored scriptures, but ….

Isaiah 6 seems really to be the real
Prophetic place about parables.

When folks see the date it may just stay dead.

Jesus concealed the truth by using parables, but by the leading of the Holy Spirit we may open some things that may come our way. The book of revelation could use some opening.

Galatians 4:24 kjv is a favorite of a revealed truth.
24. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

Start with verse 21 to get the whole meaning.

In one since I apologize for the allegory, but in another sense an allegory is a type of parable.

I Would be interested in your comments on this issue. If you wish not to make comments that is ok.

The Isaiah period is about the coming deaths in Jerusalem. There will be a select group saved from death. In Isaiah 6 we will find out why the unique delivery language method is used.

Right now the local three states are experiencing drought. The rest of the US looks pretty good. Louisiana is/could be in bad shape if it continues. Why mention the drought? I look at worsening conditions each day. Isaiah Jeremiah Ezekiel especially had a message to deliver to Jerusalem. Ezekiel describes who would be saved from death, and who will die. Isaiah 6 tells how the message is delivered and why. The disciples (12/120?), were told the truth (without just parables). The disciples got the meanings of especially one major parable. If they got the major parable, they could apply the concept to all parables. The title of this thread fits.

CONTEXTUAL INSIGHTS

A. There has always been a question about why Isaiah's call to ministry occurs in chapter 6 and not chapter 1.

1. The OT books are arranged in ways that moderns, especially westerners, do not understand. Often they are not chronological, which surprises modern western interpreters. They are thematic, but in word plays or parallelisms on a strophe level.

2. It is surely possible that Isa. 1-5 is a general introduction to the content of the entire book. Many, if not all, of the major themes are introduced.

a. the covenant people's sin

b. the consequences of disobedience

c. restoration through the special Coming One

d. a new day of righteousness

e. the universal reign of God in an idealistic setting (Eden restored)

B. The Jewish Study Bible (p. 796) makes an interesting comment about the placement of chapter 6. The footnotes assert that chapter 6 is not the beginning of Isaiah's ministry, but a new assignment. In chapters 1-5 the prophet calls on Judah to repent, but after the revelation of Isa. 6:9-10, never again in all the prophecy (chapters 7-66) does he call on them to repent. Judgment is sure and unavoidable. There is hope in a new day, but it is a future hope only.

C. As chapter 6 reveals the terrible and complete judgment of YHWH on the disobedient covenant people, Isa. 12 reveals the new day of hope and restoration. Even the missionary mandate is renewed (cf. Isa. 12:4-5). This theological tension is characteristic of the prophet's message. They enforce the Mosaic covenant's

1. consequences for disobedience and

2. promises for obedience.

BRIEF OUTLINE

A. Isaiah saw God as He is. Isa. 6:1-4

B. Isaiah saw himself as he was. Isa. 6:5

C. Isaiah saw his society for what it was. Isa. 6:5

D. Isaiah was cleansed to serve. Isa. 6:6-7

E. Isaiah was ready to go. Isa. 6:9-13

"Send me" The verb "send" (BDB 1018, KB 1511) is a Qal imperative used as a prayer request. This is Isaiah's response to YHWH's question. It clearly reveals his availability.

One wonders how much this Hebrew concept of "divinely sent one" is typological of Jesus as "the sent one" in John's Gospel and believers as His "sent ones" into the world (cf. John 17:18; 20:21).

God is reaching out to His rebellious creation! I recently heard a line from a new Christian song that says "God sent His Son, He sends His children still." Powerful words about God and about His people!

6:9-10 As YHWH reveals His purpose for Isaiah's ministry, He also reveals to Isaiah the response his message will have on Judah.

Isaiah will preach and though some may respond, the vast majority of his people/his society will not (cf. Rom. 1:24,26,28; Eph. 4:19) or cannot respond (cf. Isa. 29:9,10; Deut. 29:4; Matt. 13:13; Rom. 11:8)! Isaiah is not an evangelist here, but a prophet of covenant disobedience/consequences (cf. Matt. 13:13; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10). His message of hope is for a future day, not his day!

I am not familiar with eschatology brother but there are a lot of parallels in Is 6.

Will a thanks work for now?

Acts 8:34 kjv
34. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35. Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

The prophets did not understand all they spoke (especially of the coming suffering).
The Isaiah 53 passage is what Phillip explained to the eunuch first.

Lot was not notified about the cities destruction till the last minute. The last minute saving of some people in Ezekiel is a parallel. So was the flood.

Like you mentioned a chance was given His people, but at a point destruction was coming.

The deaths and 400 years of silence came just before Jesus. The saved alive mourners of the sins of Israel appeared at Pentecost.

All this is in a sort of parable form. The inkwell scribe wrote on the forehead of those to be saved. The law written in the new heart of flesh and the law in our mind of Christ is what happens to the Jew and gentile at Pentecost and the gentile inclusion.

Concept is a higher order than context (IMHO), but that takes time to discuss.

Ok Spirit the Holy will this work?

Deuteronomy 25:4 kjv
4. Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn

Context:
Animal husbandry
Clean, cud chewing animal

When looking at the context stay on topic.

1 Timothy 5:17 kjv
17. Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Are we suddenly off topic?

18. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
So what is going on jumping to church leadership.

1 Corinthians 9:9 kjv
9. For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10. Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

Wait you jumped context to farm help

Next thing you might talk about planters and those who will water the crop.

Concept - pay worker
Contexts:
Ox
Plowman
Planter
Water person
Harvester
Architect of whole system

God works in us to will and do of his good pleasure.

We bring the sacrifice of praise.
One major concept applied to many context areas. Some equal that we think are ordered.

Hidden in oxen is meditation, digestion, seed coat removal, keeping the enemy from getting the energy. Four stomachs and bacteria.

Can I do a book? I struggle to get this far.

On second thought-no thanks.

The law of Moses is a shadow of things that came to be fulfilled by Jesus. The ox removes the seed coat. Jesus removed the seed coat in a sense. Inside the seed coat is the story of growth. The DNA is a story of development. The Word of God in good ground brings forth a harvest.

Once the outward shell of the law is removed the real message appears. The ox is a method of revealing truth. Parables have to be looked into. The most spiritual interpretation is our goal.

God is bringing the blind by a way they did not know, He is not asking us to do the same darkened paths, of trusting in the blind, leading the blind.

Right away that shows the power and purpose of the parables, it is so nobody can any longer deceive anyone else, through assuming they can teach anyone about God. ( or they would be in the same clutches of satan.)

Jesus casts satan out by the parables, because through the words of Christ, of the righteousness of the Kingdom of Heaven, satan is left behind, being corrupt, crooked, unclean, unholy, unrighteousness, dishonesty, deception.

That is the truth and it is not concealed at all, also it leaves no way for satan to any longer give private interpretation, one truth to some people is to have freedom given by Christ, ( free from the sin of hearing anyone other than Christ) and the other truth to opeople is they are still under bondeage of hearing their teachers. ( deceiving)

Time of the FALSE PROPHETS:

Jeremiah 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Ending of the deceivers..

Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

What is the sign of the false prophet/false teachers still at work ?

Yes they rose up again, as Jesus told there would be many rising to deceive many.

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Subtilty of ways, many follow their pernicious ways, and when they speak their great swelling words of vanity, ( in a thread about parables speaking about their own speculations/speaking about things they know not of as foretold below.) they utterly perish in their OWN CORRUPTION.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2 Peter 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

2 Peter 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
