The Removing Of 1 Of The 10 Commandments

Thess, Thess,

I simply asked as question. I didn't accuse ANYONE of anything.

I do know that at one time Catholics were taught to pay for prayer. If this is not the case in our modern times, all you had to do was say, 'no, that's NOT what we do'.

But, I'm still curious as to this 'cleansing process'. Since I am unaware of it's Biblical significance, perhaps I will gain a 'new' insight into what 'I' need to consider if I am in need of this purification upon 'my' death. Any helpful information would be sincerely apreciated.

It's called almsgiving and it is not pay for prayer. What I spoke of above is called a stipend. It is not pay for prayer either.

Malachi 3 I believe it is speaks of the refiner's fire. Have you ever heard of the fire of God's love. We will come face to face with him in all his glory at our death. We may well still have sinful tendancies and damage to our souls as a result of sin. God's love, i.e. grace, will purify them from our souls. It will be like a fire but not a fire. The Book of Revelations says "nothing unclean shall enter". Therefore in order to enter heaven we know we must be far more pure than we currently are. There will not be one sinful thought in heaven.

Blessings

I think what Thess is offering is that he DOES NOT believe that upon our physical deaths, we 'sleep'. That would be the indication from his posts. For Mary to be in heaven, (able to hear their prayers), sho could NOT be asleep like David or others that have lost their physical lives.

Not quite. The body sleeps but the soul is separated from the body and lives. However in Mary's case she did not go through soul separation.

So what, in your estimation, happens to the spirit?

It is with Christ in heaven after a cleansing if neccessary.

Yes I would like a bit more clarification if I could Thess.

How are you differentiating between the soul and the Spirit?
Are you saying that both the soul and the spirit are eternal?
What is the scriptural basis you use for the soul or spirit going direct to heaven rather than waiting for the judgement?
And what is this cleansing you are referring to?

Yes, I'm curious about this also. My understanding is that we ALL sleep when we cease in this physical life. I can't say that all ARE asleep. There were a few people from the OT that there is indication never had to taste of death so I don't really know if that means that they were taken 'straight' to heaven or not. But we do know that Christ told us that even David still sleeps and he was a man after God's own heart.

And, it seems that if others 'before' Christ had defeated 'death', it would kinda water down the significance of His defeat of death. So, I have always understood the Bible to teach that we sleep until judgement.

I know I know, you're going to quote Christ offering the 'thief on the cross' that he would find himself in heaven with Christ. And in answer to this: As far as we know, we sleep and when we wake up, it seems as 'if' it is the 'next day', or maybe even the SAME day, (kind of hard to tell how long one has been asleep when one wakes up you know).

Don't feel an overpowering need to understand these things 'completely'. The important thing is to be prepared REGARDLESS. And purgatory is just 'another' thing that I have been unable to find a definition for in the Word.
