The Role of the Holy Spirit in One's Life?

That's easy,

He said those that don't believe will be damned, He didn't say those that aren't baptized will be damned, ...if that were true then Jesus is a liar because He promised the thief on the cross he would be with Him Lk 24:23 and the thief didn't have the time to be baptized.

...he that believeth not shall be damned"? Mark 16:16

...he that believeth not shall be damned"? Mark 16:16

I was not addressing the "shall be saved" part, but only the fact that he commanded baptism. He would not command it if it doesn't matter.

I will have to disagree. After the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost, you don't see da wata...

These are only examples from Acts using a simple search for baptism.

Act_2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yeshua Messiah for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Act_2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Act_8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Yeshua Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.
Act_8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Act_8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua.)
Act_8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act_8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Act_9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
Act_13:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
Act_16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
Act_16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Act_18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
Act_18:25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
Act_19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act_19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Messiah Yeshua.
Act_19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua.
Act_22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Read them again, with emphasis on those words. Holy Spirit baptism for believing Jesus was raised from the dead.

If it doesn't matter, why did Yeshua say, "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned"? Mark 16:16

Because belief comes first. if one is not believing then what's the point of taking baptism without belief. So don't twist the word of God, baptism is the commandment of Jesus Christ. First believe and then baptism

Water baptism is the first step leading to Spirit baptism in most NT examples.
Could you provide a clear example of that, please? I find examples of just the opposite. The Holy Spirit came upon the household of Cornelius, which led Peter to water baptize them.

I was not addressing the "shall be saved" part, but only the fact that he commanded baptism. He would not command it if it doesn't matter.
How do you know that Jesus was talking about water baptism? John the baptizer distinguished the difference between his baptism and Jesus'; he baptized with water, Jesus baptized with the Holy Spirit. iow, no water.

Jesus was simply including Spirit baptism along with belief, since they go together.

This passage clearly says that AFTER one repents AND is baptized, then you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it refers to water baptism which preceded the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Act 8:10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
Act 8:11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Yeshua Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.
Act 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Act 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:
Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua.)
Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Verses 9-13 are clearly talking about water baptism because when Peter and John arrived (vs.14) they had to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit (baptism of the Holy Spirit - vs. 15). Therefore, the baptism in the name of the Lord Yeshua in verse 16 must refer to water baptism because they didn't receive the Holy Spirit until verse 17.

Here is a passage I added to the list:

Act 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
Act 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Act 8:28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Act 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
Act 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
Act 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Act 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
Act 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
Act 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Yeshua.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Yeshua Messiah is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

This passage is clearly referring to water baptism BEFORE Holy Spirit baptism as verses 36-38 show.

Act_9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
Nothing here suggests the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act_13:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
John's baptism was in water.

Act_16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
Nothing here suggests the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act_16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Nothing here suggests the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act_18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
Nothing here suggests the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act_18:25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

The Ethiopic version reads, "in his own spirit". It is unclear whether or not Apollos was baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Nothing here suggests the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Act_22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
This clearly refers to water baptism because Ananias is telling Paul to "be baptized". One cannot baptize himself with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That comes from Yahweh when He chooses to do it.

How do you know that Jesus was talking about water baptism? John the baptizer distinguished the difference between his baptism and Jesus'; he baptized with water, Jesus baptized with the Holy Spirit. iow, no water.

Jesus was simply including Spirit baptism along with belief, since they go together.

See post #36.

One can "believe" without being baptized by the Holy Spirit as Acts 8:9-17 shows.

I did. And didn't see any answer to my question.

Where does it say that Simon didn't receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Seems there's quite a bit of speculation here. When the Bible SAYS that someone believes, it doesn't mean "believe in someone other than Jesus". It ALWAYS means "believe in Jesus".

Just because some are quite discomforted by the actions of Simon doesn't give them the right to claim he wasn't saved. And no where in the Bible does it say that he wasn't saved. It shows that he was an idiot.

Would you suggest that idiots cannot be saved?

I have first hand experience that idiots truly can be saved!

You receive the Holy Spirit when you (believe) that Jesus is who he said he is (Lord) and that (God raised him from the dead). This is the baptism that we receive now. After Jesus walked the earth and returned to heaven.

Mark 1:8 I (John the Baptist) baptize you with water, be he(Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

I can tell you how it went with me, with the repent and be baptized. I've mentioned it here. When I was given revelation that Jesus is literally his Son. (Jesus is Lord) And when I was in that argument with my sister and I knew 100% God raised him from the dead.

All in that moment, it was a Repenting and Baptizing moment of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit will wash away your sins.
