The Teachings of Paul

Okay, let's be clear about this. You've stated that what is taught in the gospels about Jesus is true and infallible.

Wait, no. That's not exactly what you said. You've stated that the teachings of Jesus, found in the gospels are infallible. In a different post you said that you thought that God would make certain that this was the case. The point, "The Bible is not God," has also been stated. It is understood then that your liberty and freedom to believe what you want, apart from the teachings and requirements of those sent by God (excluding Jesus himself) is paramount.

I was never taught that the Bible was infallible.

The teachings of Jesus are infallible, though, because Jesus is God.

I’m not aware of any Christians that dispute Paul was sent by Jesus. There might be a dispute, though, whether or not Paul’s teachings were infallible, mightn’t there?

You need to read through Paul's writings. There's plenty of evidence that he wasn't universally accepted as a "Man of God", or an Apostle, and that there was opposition to His teachings throughout the Church of his day.

Can you present this "evidence"?

The mistake is to confuse the Lord Jesus of the Bible with the views of religious leaders, who, for their own reasons, set the Bible aside, when it suits them.

Can you present this "evidence"?
The requested "evidence" could come from the book of ACTS, yes?
"Much learning has made you mad!"

Paul (a man chosen by Jesus after his physical resurrection) was sent :
  1. To Gentiles
  2. To Kings
  3. To Israel
He was chosen for reason and sent by God but (and of course) his purpose was not accomplished without opposition.

That purpose:
  • To open their eyes,
  • [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light,
  • and [from] the power of Satan unto God,
  • that they may receive forgiveness of sins,
  • and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
    [Acts 26:18]
In the 26th chapter of Acts we see Paul speaking before a king, actually the great-grandson of the king who, at the time of birth of Jesus, had ordered the slaughter of the male babies in his attempt to kill infant Jesus in Judea. King Agrippa II was the great-grandson of Herod. Many charges were brought against Paul including accusations that he was against the law, against the temple, and against Caesar. Paul was innocent but the Roman governors Felix and Festus did not set him free.

Paul explained his mission to Agrippa, saying he was sent,
"... To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." [Acts 26:18 KJV]

Festus stood and interrupted him,
"Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad!" [Acts 26:24 KJV]

Paul said:
..."I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason. "For the king, before whom I also speak freely, knows these things; for I am convinced that none of these things escapes his attention, since this thing was not done in a corner. "King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you do believe."

Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to become a Christian."
[Acts 26:25-28 NKJV]

Then your teachers are teaching an extremely insidious falsehood.

My teachers taught me this:

[1] If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

[2] And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
[3] If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
[4] Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;

[5] it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
[6] it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.
[7] Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
[8] Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

[9] For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect;
[10] but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.
[11] When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
[12] For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.
[13] So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 12 RSV

We all are mistaken sometimes. That doesn’t make us liars.

Saying that God spoke to you directly on the road to a city called Damascus and that he gave him a direct mission and orders for what to do next when this did not happens is not a mistake. It is a lie or it really happened.

My teachers did not teach me to love the Bible. They taught me to love the Lord.

If they taught you to love the Lord, they taught you from the Bible...there is no other way to know Him.

How could you not love the Bible which is the only revelation of the Word of God...Jesus Christ?

Then your teachers are teaching an extremely insidious falsehood.
The doctrine, that the Word of God, as found in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation needs to be doubted is the teaching that is being called into question, NOT the character of those men who taught it. Jesus taught from the Scriptures as did all those men to whom He was called to train (with only one exception, that being Judas Iscariot).

I am certain that Alabaster did not mean to cast any dispersions here. We are all thankful for the call of perfection that you have. God authored that into your heart and I am also certain that those who were chosen by him for you personally will receive their reward from Him personally.

Cordially,

~Sparrow

Thanks Sparrowhawke, but I believe Mr. Carabbio was trying to say that Paul was not a man of God, hence the reason he used quotations. Perhaps, I'm wrong and that is not what he intended to say. :shrug

They were only sharing what the Bible says. That's why you should love the Bible. It has all the answers, and if you read it for yourself and allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten your understanding you wouldn't be giving credit to your human teachers but to God Himself.

Saying that God spoke to you directly on the road to a city called Damascus and that he gave him a direct mission and orders for what to do next when this did not happens is not a mistake. It is a lie or it really happened.

It happened. It didn’t mean he was perfect thereafter.

If they taught you to love the Lord, they taught you from the Bible...there is no other way to know Him.

You can know him by having a personal relationship with him. As a matter of fact, you will never know him until you do.
