Bible Study The Unforgivable Sin?

Thanks.

So if you were to sum up the "unforgivable sin" into a few sentences, what would it be? Or would it be just one word, "presumption"?

James 1:15 finds the start of any sin & its final 'mature' tally. The verse below tells us the same thing as I see it. Sin is Sin, yet there is the FINISH of it in maturity. It is the known sin's continuence that is presumption which DEADENS the Holy Spirits Strivings. That was the Great Transgression that David tells of in Psalms 19:13 using the Word of ALSO.

1 John 5

[16] If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
[17] All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

The End here is the Mature sin that is unto death. The second death.

--Elijah

The unforgivable sin is knowing that God is real as evidenced by His work in your life, those moments when you KNOW He is there and enjoying all He does for you and teaches you...

and rejecting Him and walking away forever. See, the Holy Spirit is God in you. Once you have the Holy Spirit you are sealed. If you cast Him out you won't be forgiven or given a second chance.

Don't worry though. God knows if you really mean it and fully comprehend what you're doing.

Lets look closer at the word 'speaks';

it is a 'verb' — A word that describes an action, state of being, or the production of a result.

it is in the 'present' — The verb tense where the writer portrays an action in process or a state of being that is occurring in the present time with no assessment of the action’s completion.

it is active — The grammatical voice that signifies that the subject is performing the verbal action or is in the state described by the verb.

it is nominative — The case that normally refers the subject of a verb.

So...'whoever'(the subject) speaks(to teach, command, exhort, afirm or maintain) against(negatively, making the higher no better than the lower) the Spirit... and it is in the state of being done with no assessment of stopping.

So. It is not something you just blindly do. It is a on going process, it is not a 'one shot' word that is said. It is a 'action' of your life. It is a purposeful and deliberate accusation and demonstrative attitude toward the things that the Spirit of God does in the lives of man.

Its not just cussing...

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the only unforgiveable sin that I've seen mentioned in the bible (and this one comes up pretty regularly on christian forums) is the passage you mentioned in matthew talking about blasphemy against the holy spirit.

if you look at it in context, the pharisees were accusing jesus of performing his miracles through the power of satan. now a genuine misunderstanding in that area could be forgiven. if you make a mistake, sure. but the pharisees were jealous of christ and were trying to murder him. if you know that someone is performing their miracles by the power of god (because it's obvious) but you deliberatly accuse them of working through the power of satan because your attitude stinks - how can God trust someone like that with eternity?

to 'blaspheme' against the holy spirit can only be interpreted as a deliberate act. you cannot accidently blaspheme (in the full sense of the word) against God. jesus called the pharisees some horrible names because they deserved them. he described them as 'whitewashed tombs' full of 'dead mens bones', 'sons of hell', vipers etc.

they wern't nice people (although not all were wicked, some were just decieved, like Paul)

to deliberatly call the holy spirit the power of satan because you feel threatened by the persons influence is pretty breathtaking in terms of wickedness. especially to the point of murdering the person.

Agree with the post.

The Unforgivable Sin is accusing Jesus of sorcery. the Talmud does it several times.

+ Mark 7:7 inclusion! Right on. 1 John 5 is factual.

[16] If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
[17] All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
[18] We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
[19] And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
[20] And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (CONDITIONAL to those who are in Christ! Rom. 8:1)

This has the sin question pretty much seen in maturity one way or the other. As David discribed this Great Transgression in Psalms 19:13 with known PRESUMPTION leading to ones FINISH as seen again in James 1:15 about any known sin (1 John 3:4 identification)
when it is [FINISHED] or matured.

Case in Point: Is like the 4th Sabbath day Commandment. When one is 'LED' (Rom. 8:1) by the Holy Spirit to understand the Lords Command & then fights the Command over & over again, it will not be long that the person or persons (Rev. 17:1-3) just can no longer be moved by the Holy Spirit & they will be left as the Rev. 17 verse Documents.

And yes, I could have said the Commandment about lieing, except many of the Rev. 17:1-5 ones have no problem with this sin except as how God see's it, that to break one Commamdment is seen by Him as breaking them all. So the 7th day Sabbath was a good illustration because these Broadway ones have been teaching against the 4th Commandments for well past any 120 years of the Holy Spirits Striving. (as in Gen. 6:3) And the Caps of Rev. 17:1-5 has already found their SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST's FULL [ABOMINATION] as church denominations.

Your post is an excellent one! You do know what you are now to expect?? Matt. 10:25

--Elijah

Matt 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Some wise person answered this a while back by saying - “If you are worried about blaspheming the Holy Spirit – you haven't.†This is because blasphemy is an act of total apostasy – at this point you really don't care anymore. The religious leaders seemed to be doing just that. Jesus was condemned by the Sanhedrin for blasphemy. The proof of which was his own words when he admitted who he really was. But officially the Jewish record shows that he was condemned for doing magic and sorcery and for misleading Israel. This is real blasphemy – if they really knew what they were doing.

I think the key here is knowing the absolute truth and assigning the things of God to Satan knowingly. Consider that the fallen Angels are not redeemable by the cross – Why? Because they knew the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit face to face for possibility billions of years – who knows. They had full knowledge of the character of God himself – his goodness, love, and mercy. And they rebelled despite all of this. Their conscience became seared.

On the forefront of evangelism in this life is - God the Father and God the Son. All things will be forgiven human beings in their ignorance when they enter into God's New Covenant by believing the message and entering into baptism.

In order to blaspheme the Holy Spirit you have to intimately know the Holy Spirit. So therefore only people or angels who have an intimate knowledge of the Holy Spirit - or people who know God personally can in reality blaspheme the Holy Spirit, which is to attribute the works of the Holy Spirit as evil and to rebel against the character of God in his Holiness and truth.

The best examples are the fallen angels and Demos who left Paul having loved this present world. If he were with Paul I am confident that he must have tasted of the intimacy of God's love. He turned and became apostate – which as we have already said – they really don't care anymore.

The principle is to rebel and do evil with full knowledge of who God the Holy Spirit really is.

I tend to agree with this view.

There is a Jewish tradition that says demons can be cast out EXCEPT for the mute.
God, and God ALONE could cast out demons of a mute man.

The reason being that before a demon could be cast out, it had to reveal it's name.
Since a mute man could not speak, this was impossible for anyone except GOD.

Scripture does not specifically detail this tradition, but it does hint at the legitimacy of the tradition.

Luke 8
(30) And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
Above we have an example of the demon revealing a name.
Matthew 9
(32) As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
(33) And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
Here we see that this particular type of casting out a demon from a mute man had never before been seen.

If the tradition holds any validity, then the Pharisees KNEW without a doubt that what Jesus did could only be done by GOD.
And yet, KNOWING this, they falsely attributed it to Satan.

Equivalent to knowing it was GOD, and purposely lying about and rejecting it.

Agree with the post.

The Unforgivable Sin is accusing Jesus of sorcery. the Talmud does it several times.

Heb.6
[1] Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
[2] Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
[3] And this will we do, if God permit.

[4] For it is impossible for those who were [once enlightened], and [have tasted of the heavenly gift], and [were made partakers of the Holy Ghost],
[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Just a question as to how the Broadway of Matt. 7 + all of these ones or Rev. 17:1-5 do this above then?? And the best question might be to understand that these in Matt. 7 sound a whole lot better even than these of Rev. 17:1-5?? Prophesied in thy name? and cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And you say that these are accusing Jesus of sorcery???

But read on if one wants to know what the unpardonable sin is? it is seen in verses 26-27.
Open known presumption sin will finally turn into the Psalms 19:13 Great Transgression

--Elijah

And you say that these are accusing Jesus of sorcery???

Yes indeedy. Heres the actual sin itself:

The Talmud (Babylonian edition) records other sins of "Jesus the Nazarene":

He and his disciples practiced sorcery and black magic, led Jews astray into idolatry, and were sponsored by foreign, gentile powers for the purpose of subverting Jewish worship (Sanhedrin 43a).

He was sexually immoral, worshipped statues of stone (a brick is mentioned), was cut off from the Jewish people for his wickedness, and refused to repent (Sanhedrin 107b; Sotah 47a).
He learned witchcraft in Egypt and, to perform miracles, used procedures that involved cutting his flesh—which is also explicitly banned in the Bible (Shabbos 104b).

The unforgiven sin, Is for those who put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is not fit for the kingdom of God Luke 9:62, Having tasted of the heavenly gifts, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost and have tasted the good word of God Heb 6:4

Those who healed the sick casted out devils John 14:12-14 Mark 16:17 Luke 10:17-19

And have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2 Peter 2:20

For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. 2 Peter 2:21-22

You missed my point! I have NO doubt about these ones being in past/tense. With the sin AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST. Matt. 12:31-32

What Psalms 19:13 documents is how one comes to this stage of no return. Presumptous OPEN DOCUMENTED SIN has one on their way to the GREAT TRANSGRESSION. Sin Against The Holy Ghost.

The Matt. 7 Broadway ones are not the ones of S.& G. Christ's Virgin ones in only doctrine are not any of these ones! Matt. 23:38 with a DESOLATE HOUSE! (Virgin Church Fold) + Matt. 25:10's CLOSED DOOR! (of their probation) And the Rev. 17:1-5 ones??? All are the ABOMINATION OF THE EARTH! Yet, who among them look like S.&.G.?? Even see their Judgement in Matt. 10:15? it will be far worse than these ones of S.& G.! And verse 5-6 tells us that these ones are THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL. (foldwise)

And any sin not repented of, will finally find the person or persons commiting the sin against the Holy Ghost! See Gen. 6:3!

OK: That is what 'i' was attempting to say.

I still dont know what you are attempting to say.

So...if the Talmud declares Jesus a sorcerer and what not, then it lies, and needs to be cast aside.

Uhmm.....it needs to be NOTED that the people who wrote it and subscribe to it have commited the unpardonable sin. They need to have a light shone brghtly on them..... (Oh i forgot Duckie, you are completely against exposing liars)

.....and then you can cast the talmud aside yes.

They will be judged accordingly.

In the meantime, we who have the truth of the Word of God need to walk in it before the world, as salt and light.

I don't know what your crack means about liars, so I will just consider the source.

It doesn't matter what sin one will not give up, (Jame 2:8-12) in the end it brings forth death.[Eternl Death] (James 1:15 & Obad. 1:16) That is the full cup of the sin against the Holy Ghost in maturity. The sin is matured to where the person or persons just can no longer be reached by Him. (look around Gen. 6:3)

And the guys [post] can be sure that these ones on Matt. 7's BROADWAY ones & Rev. 17:1-5 ones [of our day] were not into calling Christ 'openly' at least, bad stuff.
NO, false teachings when known, & then will not be given up, finds these ones as Eccl. 3:15's repeat of Heb. 6. Crucifying Christ Afresh and putting Him to an OPEN SHAME.

And it has the same maturing effect if not given up as sorcery, drugs, drinking fermented stuff & a whole host of other of satan's sins (+ smoking pot and the likes!) that leads on into the presumptious Great Transgression that David warned of. The sin against the Holy Ghost.

--Elijah

I can agree with this portion.

There comes a time when no remedy remains.

2 Chronicles 36
(15) And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
(16) But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
