16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:16–26.

I don't know about you, but I see the young man bound for salvation.
It's not Christmas yet, but do you see what I see?

What about the bad thief who asked Jesus to save him?

Which bad thief?
Lk 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

The good thief was promised paradise yet he continued to suffer justly for his sins, doing penance purge

The bad thief said: Lk 23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

Thanks

It wasn't penance. It was reward for their deeds.

Reward, not penance.

The bad thief was outside the grace of God.

Care to provide some indulgences you've collected to get him out of purgatory?

Purgatory is only for the saved not the lost

There is no such thing as purgatory.
It was imagined in the vanity of the mind.
What is Jesus talking about?

Matt 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

Thanks

Prison is not purgatory.
You make some real gymnastics to link the two.
Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
Heaven where God's throne is where and what Isaiah saw is not purgatory.

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

As above.

OK, Don, let's put Catholicism in the Catholic Forum as instructed.
I want to talk about the eventual salvation of the Young Man.

As above.
It was a purging of sin!
Hence purgatory is. Biblical

No mention of purgatory here, Don.
Nice try.

Purged! Root of purgatory

Purgatory is not heaven.

It’s the last stop before heaven!
No unclean thing shall enter!
Well, if a person has been saved by the Holy Spirit that person is justified (declared "Not Guilty" of sin, which is a one-time act of God), and sanctified (which is an ongoing process.)
So, a saved person is clean before God and does not need any more cleansing. To seek any cleaning outside the Word of God is to disrespect and demean the Work of Christ done on the cross.

Not talking salvation
Even if you reject Mk 13:13 and Matt 24:13 and too many more to mention

Not mercy salvation but expiation of the punishment that is due to God’s justice offended by sin

The born again believer is already judged at the cross.

Romans 8:1 (KJV 1900): There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

No condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.

None.

According to mercy yes and forgiven and in grace in union with the communion of saints
But still must expiate our sins
Do penance suffer
