Most sprang from the Catholic Church as 'Protestants' - but, essentially taking the core beliefs WITH them!

HOW do you determine as what you have been taught is the TRUTH?

First, I search the Scriptures to see if what I have been taught lines up and makes sense as a coherent whole. Second, I weigh it against what Christianity has historically taught, like the deity of Christ and the Trinity. Third, if it isn't a salvific issue and there is room for disagreement, I continually search by reading and debating, adjusting my view as a better or stronger view presents itself. In all of this, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide me to the truth of a matter.

How do you determine that what you have been taught is the truth?

Is the Bible your source? Does the church you go to believe the Bible? Does it believe the same things you believe?
The Bible alone is the most unique book on the face of the Earth!
Nobody, it appears believes EXACTLY as I do- but it comes close!

There may not be any two believers anywhere that believe exactly the same about everything. As long as they believe the core doctrines, some of the rest doesn't matter as much, although those "outer" things still affect how one behaves.

James 1:5- If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him.

You asked.
My views can be ignored

Jewish OT scripture
New covenant scripture
The words of Jesus
Romans 1:20
Hidden parable type information

It takes almost all of those areas to solve some things.

On the evidence of two or three witnesses shall a thing be established.

I agree the Holy Spirit takes us through the evidence.

And who decides what are core doctrines and what are the true versions of them?

Actually anyone claiming that the Bible is their source of doctrine is liable to be in error.

Jesus taught the apostles. The apostles taught others, but they did not teach from the Bible.
Jesus was their source of doctrine.

There exists the truth, and then there is speculation- sometimes the two are intertwined, as with the apostles.

And, the congregation, churches, or organizations rules- which may or may not be according to scripture.

I think its more the lack of humility whereby the person refuses to admit they learn from others and some of them know more then I do. I learned the match between Revelation and 70AD from others. The Bible was of no help. But I dropped inborn sin nature from reading when God spoke to Cain about sin. Got that from the Bible alone.
