I never knew this was a word until recently.

Growing up parents in Barbados would tell their girls and I remembered my mother telling me "Look, take your hands out of akimbo, you are not a woman". On the other hand if men or boys place theirs in akimbo it was if they were gay. Apparently it was a woman's thing to do.
